About this listen

Joe works at a facility that performs human experimentation.

His work just followed him home.

The government wanted to unlock hidden abilities in the human mind.

They put subjects in extreme sensory deprivation.

All the test subjects went violently insane.

But the research continued.

Today it has been perfected.

Almost perfected.

I found this a little bit slow to get going, and found myself wondering "where's the horror?" for the majority as apart from some quite gruesome depictions, nothing really shocking happens for the first 2/3 of the book. this is, however, all establishing the characters and situation for what I thought to be a fantastic ending. it delivers in both shock value, is truly horrific and manages to tie up the stories of all the main characters and several smaller characters, whilst offering a satisfying closure that's so often overlooked. overall an excellent book that truly had me going "ooh" out loud when certain revelations happen.

a little slow to get going but an excellent ending

The book is well executed and a smooth read but we've seen the theme of government mind control experiments executed so many times before that it's nothing new.

A smooth read but lacks novelty

This feels like it would be at home as the plot for a resident evil sequel. I don't mean that in a negative way either. It just sits nicely in that sort of universe. Well written and has some fast paced sequences and violent imagery that will stay with me for a while to come.

Fast paced and full of good scares

I like the theme overall and it started interesting. Hard to understand what the antenas are until the result is a bit unclear. The story could have been deeper but sums up as a father and daughter thing.
Neutral narrator with no weird changes of voices which I really appreciated.

Ok but inconsistent

Perhaps I went into this wrong. I kept getting this recommended as a really unique horror story. It was fine. However, it was not scary in the slightest and the kind of body horror elements employed weren't overly original or interesting. The characters were also okay. I also felt the concept was a little underdeveloped--like there was a lot more scope to delve into what intercepts do.
I don't know. it felt like SCP fanfiction that was written clearly but with very little in the way of flair.

I listened to it through--just about. That prologue was dreadful. Nearly a new record for DNF. Wouldn't recommend it, but that doesn't mean it was bad. it was okay, which may be worse.

Overhyped average story
