Summary

With nothing but the clothes on his back - and something horrific snapping at his heels - Jack Winter fled his rural Georgia home when he was just a boy. Watching the world he knew vanish in a trucker’s rearview mirror, he thought he was leaving an unspeakable nightmare behind forever.

Now, years later, the bright new future he’s built suddenly turns pitch black, as something fiendishly familiar looms dead ahead.

Surviving a violent car crash seems like a miracle for Jack’s family, but Jack knows there’s nothing divine about it. The profound evil he uncovered as a boy has finally found him again. The thing that crouched at his bedside with soulless eyes and grinning, razor-sharp teeth is back with plans for Jack and his angelic youngest daughter, and a chilling promise: I’ve always been here, and I’ll never leave.

4.5 Stars! Eerie and gripping.

Though it's a bit short, which was my only gripe with the book, I thought this was a great listen. It's an eerie experience that leaves you wanting more.

I smashed this out in a day, but it's definitely worth the credit. Great characters, great story, great book. Give it a listen.

Well narrated but predictable

I enjoyed this and until the last hour it kept me hooked but as the ending unravelled I predicted what would happen- still a good listen though

Creepy and disturbing

Really enjoyed this story, felt very sinister at times! My only gripe about it is that I wish it had been longer so I could have enjoyed it more.

*CONTENT SPOILER*
There are some moments that may distress the reader of gore and animal cruelty that I believe would be hard for some listeners to get through

Great story!

Really good tale, packed with so much. Horror, fear, dread, suspense, and wow, what an ending.

I absolutely loved the narration, though chapter 1 seemed sped up, I thought I'd accidentally increased the speed. Other than that, the narrator was fantastic. Will definitely be checking out more from this author.

So scary

Love this book. Like all of Ania’s books, it frightens the life out of you and then breaks your heart. Wish I good read it for the first time again.

A story without hope is a hopeless story

well written and well performed but….

I love horror stories and this one had the potential to be great. Yet, as a father of 2, I struggled with both the content and lack of any sense of redemption or positive outcome.

It is literally a tale of unstoppable evil in which no forces of good or god exist to counter it

Well-read and performed but predictable.

This was an enjoyable listen up until the final act, where we got very few answers and a very predictable ending.

Predictable but Enjoyable

This is the second story I've pursued by the same author, this too seems to have the same theme where the main protaginist gets to third act before the reader gets to discover their sordid past... The narator seems to speed through the text so knock the speed down for a more enjoyable listen.
