About this listen

With nothing but the clothes on his back - and something horrific snapping at his heels - Jack Winter fled his rural Georgia home when he was just a boy. Watching the world he knew vanish in a trucker’s rearview mirror, he thought he was leaving an unspeakable nightmare behind forever.

Now, years later, the bright new future he’s built suddenly turns pitch black, as something fiendishly familiar looms dead ahead.

Surviving a violent car crash seems like a miracle for Jack’s family, but Jack knows there’s nothing divine about it. The profound evil he uncovered as a boy has finally found him again. The thing that crouched at his bedside with soulless eyes and grinning, razor-sharp teeth is back with plans for Jack and his angelic youngest daughter, and a chilling promise: I’ve always been here, and I’ll never leave.

Being used to lengthy King books it was nice to listen to a story that got right to the point. Maybe not the glowing 5 star tributes I read in the reviews but an enjoyable story all the same. Nice twist at the end and not quite what I expected.

Good concise story with a twist

Though it's a bit short, which was my only gripe with the book, I thought this was a great listen. It's an eerie experience that leaves you wanting more.

I smashed this out in a day, but it's definitely worth the credit. Great characters, great story, great book. Give it a listen.

4.5 Stars! Eerie and gripping.

Good pace throughout with plenty going on. Loved it.

Great creepy story.

Pretty basic and formulaic horror/ thriller that isn’t really pushing anything new that we haven’t had in this genre. The characters are pretty thin and it comes off overall like one of those trashy Netflix movies that pass an hour of your time but it that time would be better off spent doing something else.

Feels like a typical horror where the characters act in a ridiculous manner, or don’t act as they should, to begin with, but through slivers of backstory we soon realise that we’re not in Kansas anymore.
Well worth a listen.

Not a typical tale.
