If you really need help with the basics

This book is very basic. I was looking for information on how to "level-up" significantly, since I consider myself to have good conversation skills already. If you are really bad at conversation and need clear guidance, this this book could help. If you are already a decent conversationalist, then this may be too basic for you.

Excellent Book

Easy to listen to and had very helpful tips on improving my conversation skills. I normally don't a review but I felt this book was worth the time to let people know it was helpful to me.

Just the basics repackaged

So the author starts by saying that he is a FAILED stand-up comic. So the rest of the book is about how social skills relate to IMPROV which is a totally different thing. Lessons include not changing the subject and then in the next chapter you learn that you can totally change the subject whenever you want. There really is nothing here that is not intuitive to even people who did not do improv. The largest portion of the book is the author sharing his personal story and talking about how much he loves Will Ferrell.

Well worth the price

It was a lot of good tips that address my own problems in conversation. After listening to this book, I think the only conversational problem I don't have is interrupting people.

an hour of material stretched over many. in my opinion, "do you talk funny?" is a much better book, with better narration.

Utter Pabulum, a Superficial Waste of Time

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Any person with more than a modicum of depth/intelligence is likely to be quickly offended by the utter lack of substance in this self help book. I cannot envision anyone - at least anyone without an interest in promoting this author and/or sales of this book - would genuinely point out to tangible ways this book offers anything of merit or value.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Anger at how lacking in substance this book was. It was the first book I declined to finish. It reads like an untalented 10th grader's term paper, repeating the same broad points over and over with no (meaningful, anyway) tangible examples of what supports the thesis.For example, the chapter (4) on "Use specific statements not open ended questions."Here's a sample: "We ask questions all the time because they come easily to us. We often navigate the world based on questions, and wondering about what we see, hear and know." Really. Thanks. What next?" BUT, if you're trying to get a great conversation going, questions can lead to minefields. Remember that great conversations involve a frictionless back and forth." Are. You. Kidding. Me?

An Audible member for about five years, I've got over 200 titles to my credit. Probably 30% in the "self improvement" milieu. While maybe 1 title in 20 is a disappointment, this is the WORST book I've ever downloaded, and will be only the second on which I request a return/refund.

Not really sure that this book was for me

I really don't know what the narrator was talking about I sort of found him uninteresting. After two hours of this book I had to put it down because I truly couldn't connect with this author. Sorry.

Not a total waste

These books often leave me disappointed and this one was not different. For me the improvisation comparisons only sometimes met their aim. Standing in front of an audience waiting for them to converse with you is a problem. Reading how receptive they are to what you are saying and how you say it is invaluable. My apologies to the narrator but he was awful. He was flat and and emotionless. His enunciation was great something people appear not to care about today. This is a short read that leaves me extremely grateful it’s over in spite of the things I learned. Happy Reading

Is there an “Improve your narration skill”?

Yes I really had to try and keep listening to this audiobook and only made it 2/3 of the way.
