Summary

In 2004 Dom Joly wrote a spoof autobiography called Look At Me, Look At Me. In Here Comes the Clown, he takes up the story of his life from 14 January 2000, when the very first episode of Trigger Happy TV aired on Channel 4 and everything changed for him. Suddenly he was famous; reality was weirder than any fiction he could conjure up.

This is the story of what happened next, through snippets of recollections from his adventures in show business....

Dom Joly is a British television comedian and journalist. He is the star of Trigger Happy TV, a hidden camera show that was sold to over 70 countries worldwide as well as World Shut Your Mouth for BBC1 and Dom Joly's Happy Hour, a spoof travel show for Sky One.

Just Incredibly Good!

If you could sum up Here Comes the Clown in three words, what would they be?

Witty. Honest. Fascinating.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked Dom, but also Sam's character. I felt for Stacey, Dom's wife.

Have you listened to any of Dom Joly’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I purchased "Look At Me, Look At Me" in fact I pre-ordered it.
I hated it and then took an instant dislike to the author, solely because I hadn't the intelligence to realise it was a spoof/satirical book.
I was wrong, Dom Joly is an extraordinarily clever chap, I grossly misunderstood the quirky humour in the book. I shall now revisit it with an open mind,

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Here Comes The Clown made me laugh, but I also empathised wiith the author.
This is simply a superb book, and beautifully narrated.
It's actually a brilliant story and I'd highly recommend it.
Really interesting info contained therein, who knew Dom schooled with Osama Bin Laden? Who knew such skullduggery existed in the world of show business?

Any additional comments?

FTR I've now publicly apologised to Dom Joly via Twitter, because I was wrong to make an assumption based on one book. It turns out he's actually very nice and has a great sense of fun, he's also a really good author.Buy this book, you won't be disappointed. 10/10

Loved it.

Poignant at times, laugh out loud at others.

I am always grateful to anyone who dares to be publicly vulnerable... What a beautiful joie de vie this man clearly has, wringing every last drop out of this life business. Although his wife deserves some sort of OBE for tolerating his seemingly endless jollies.

Still chuckling at the salt beef saga..I think it might inspire my inner arsehole into some practical jokery....

Really Entertaining and funny

Dom Joly has had more laughs, pratfalls, adventures and failures than most. His honesty is really refreshing - as this book is definitely not the usual massive ego trip that most people in his position churn out. This has been one of the most entertaining listens this year. Thanks Dom!!

A brilliant book brilliantly narrated

I listen to a lot of audiobooks, I drive a lot for my job so I'm familiar with all the audible favourites , Jon Ronson, Bill Bryson etc... Travel writing is my chosen genre , probably why I first listened to one of Doms books, This latest book is just as good as his last two which is to say very good , his rebellious streak and obvious opposition to authority (I get the impression he finds it hard to do as he's told) is what I find amusing through out his books ! This is one of those audiobooks which you end up watching the hours go down wishing there were more to listen to ! Download this book you will love it

Thoroughly enjoyable

What this isn't is a follow on from Dom's fake autobiography. Here he tells us what it's like to accidentally end up the star and producer of a popular tv show, being mis-labelled as a comedian, falling flat on his face repeatedly yet always managing to make good somehow,

Sometimes painful, often funny, this is one of the easiest listens I've had for ages - which is definitely not to say the content is shallow.

I'm still laughing when I visualise the bit with the Eskimo....

Done it again Dom!

Would you consider the audio edition of Here Comes the Clown to be better than the print version?

Having Dom reading the book to you brings out the full meaing behind what he wrote. So funny

What was one of the most memorable moments of Here Comes the Clown?

Learning how all of the programs and projects came about and the silly stunts such as the CCTV Mega Zoom to a Sheep loving man Incident

Which character – as performed by Dom Joly – was your favourite?

Snail crossing the road - THTV

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

After reading all of Dom’s other books I was delighted that he released his new one just before I went on holiday, so I could power read it!

Any additional comments?

Again, a great read and totally engrossing. What an amazing run of fortune and fail Dom has had. So glad he is still the laughing clown ready to entertain us again…

HELLO! It's NOT rubbish!

I've read a number of celebrity autobiographies where they often brush over how they made it, and skip past some of the key moments that perhaps they just took for granted or have long since forgotten. In this book, Dom Joly offers a frank insight into his showbiz journey, the weird moments, the good luck, the bad luck, the great ideas, and the times it all went wrong. He's pretty frank about the times he screwed up and made poor choices, and through it all presents the story with good humor and intelligent writing. Hearing his words in his voice, also added to the experience.

I thought it was great, with some amusing moments, and if you've enjoyed any of his work over the years, this book lifts the curtain and shows some of what was going on behind the scenes.

Very Funny

A very honest and humble description of Dom Joly’s are we through snow business. Superbly narrated complete with many laugh out loud moments. Hijacking Michael Winners Wikipedia page and ripping the door of Robert Smiths limousine we’re particular highlights. Well worth the credit !
