Summary

Síle is a stylish citizen of the new Dublin, a veteran flight attendant who's travelled the world. Jude is a 25-year-old archivist, stubbornly attached to the tiny town of Ireland, Ontario, in which she was born and raised. On her first plane trip, Jude's and Síle's worlds touch and snag at Heathrow Airport. In the course of the next year, their lives, and those of their friends and families, will be drawn into a new, shaky orbit.

This sparkling, lively story explores age-old questions: Does where you live matter more than who you live with? What would you give up for love, and would you be a fool to do so?

Wonderful romp

Delightful and occasionally harrowing romance, which asks questions about what constitutes home and what things are worth taking a chance on. Charmingly read.

Disappointing twaddle

I’ve read other books by Emma Donoghue that I have found interesting but this isn’t. I only ploughed through as it was chosen by my book group. There’s a promising start but then it becomes dull, soppy and boring. The narration may have been part of the problem for me the different voices and accents are dreadful.

Witty dialogue!

Best part of this story is the hugely amusing dialogue on the part of Sheila O'Shaunessy. What she sees in the rather turgid Jude, we will never know. Narrator very good and engaging, although a few pronunciations went awry...Glenfiddich!

Annoying Irish accents

I found the narration irritating, Jude was portrayed as a very dull older character. Sheila and her Irish friends all sounded like pantomime Actors. Would’ve been better if there had been an authentic Irish narrator.
