About this listen

The greater the Evil, the more deadly the game....

When a rapist is found mutilated in a brutal attack, Detective Kim Stone and her team are called in to bring a swift resolution. But, as more vengeful killings come to light, it soon becomes clear that there is someone far more sinister at work.

With the investigation quickly gathering momentum, Kim finds herself exposed to great danger and in the sights of a lethal individual undertaking their own twisted experiment.

Up against a sociopath who seems to know her every weakness, for Detective Stone, each move she makes could be deadly. As the body count starts to mount, Kim will have to dig deeper than ever before to stop the killing. And this time - it's personal.

The rising star of the British thriller scene returns with a novel that enthrall fans of Rachel Abbott, Val McDermid and Mark Billingham.

Critic reviews

"Stunning." ( The Mail on Sunday)
"I absolutely loved it...This one is one of the best crime thrillers I've read in a long time, and that includes mainstream authors such as James Patterson!" (Fiona's Book Reviews)
"I don't think I've been so hooked by a new author since the discovery of Mark Edwards or Mark Billingham...if you finish a crime thriller feeling like you just need to have a lie-down and a cup of tea to get your breath back, then the writer has done their job. Angela Marsons, I still don't have my breath back." ( Reading Room with a View)

I am enjoying Angela Marsons Kim stone books and normally like Jan Cramers narration but for me she let this book down a little hence only four stars. It just seemed as if she was trying to read this book at warp speed and it was difficult to keep up at times. Glad I found this series as so far (I am only up to book 2) I'm really liking the books and the character of Kim! I have just ordered and am about to start book 3 so I'm keeping my fingers crossed Jan is back to her usual standard of narration!

Not bad!

Enjoyed the story, but as soon as I began listening, I remembered from listening to book 1 that I found the narration style difficult. Hardly a breath drawn between full stop and sentence beginning. A narration race to chapter end. The breakneck pace only seemed to slow as the chapters in the 60s were reached. If only she would slow down I would enjoy the book far more. Not sure I can cope with her in the third book.

A good story

My second DI Kim Stone novel and am currently gobbling them up. the back story of Kim is so believable and draws you in to find out more. This story is psychologically scarey yet utterly enthralling.

Excellent.

This is the third book of the series I’ve read (previous book 0 & 1), and this is by far the best so far. The first one I just found easy listening but I’m glad I persevered as this one was totally gripping and had far more depth.

Already purchased the next book in the series

Really enjoyable stand alone story and a great series. Tough story lines but not so awful or gruesome that you have nightmares.
