Stefan de Marco was looking for a position...again. Being a high scoring magical anchor was only useful in his world when he had someone to partner with. His slender body and elfin looks meant he was usually only chosen to anchor people who believed his duties should extend well past working hours, and that wasn't something Stefan was interested in.

When you can talk to ghosts, things are bound to get spirited. The ghosts have been there since before I can remember. When I was a kid, they doted on me, but as I got older, they got more demanding. I’ve spent my whole life seeing and talking to dead people and trying to pretend I’m not, because the living just don’t understand. Nobody wants to be around the freak who claims to see ghosts. Story
After half a century of chaos, my retirement from leading the Community of Species Government has been bliss. No more hellhounds playing pranks. No more snippy demons demanding my attention. No more cajoling money from the wealthy to support the community. Just peace while I avoid my overbearing father and try to work out my next steps. Although...maybe three years of peace is enough. It might even be starting to get boring. In fact, an adolescent dragon crash-landing on my landlord's shed is just the kind of excitement I need - especially when he brings his species leader to my door.

Though I was born with the ability to see the dead, I struggled with it until my brother was killed and his ghost was left behind. Now, I’m determined to figure out who is responsible for his death…the problem is that Detective Maddox Booker, the one working the case, is a grumpy and stubborn man who wants nothing to do with me and definitely doesn’t believe in ghosts. It doesn’t help that I keep finding myself looking ridiculous in front of the detective, thanks to interfering ghosts who enjoy laughing at my expense.

The truth is, I'm an admin assistant who applied for a job that sounded kind of interesting and ended up working for the Community of Species Government. I'm the only human in the office, and basically I ride herd on a team of rambunctious shifters and demons. I also spend a lot of time avoiding Gideon Bailey, the demon I had a one-night stand with right before I took this job. He hates me, and I really want to avoid being murdered. But I've been offered a promotion that will mean working with him, so we're both going to have to get over it

Ari had a game plan for life: shoot people. Get money. Hang out with fellow criminal friends. He saw absolutely no reason to change that plan until one dark night in Memphis, when a little girl reached out to him with pocket change and a desperate plea for him to help her. Adopting an abused little girl off the streets was, needless to say, not part of the plan. Ari had no idea what he was doing with an eight year old. He especially didn’t know how to juggle taking contracts and raising a little girl.

Getting into the vampire-only detective unit was the easy part. What’s going to be more difficult is dealing with my new partner - an ancient vampire who keeps threatening to eat me. The unit has never had a human in it. Marcus - or, as I like to call him: Fangy McFangface - would really prefer to keep it that way. He’s grumpy, short-tempered, and broody, but I have a way with words, and I know he’s starting to like me, even if he swears he’s not.

No longer content to just lie on the table and let him figure out how they died, they're now peering over his shoulder critiquing his work and confessing their most lascivious sins before skipping off merrily into the afterlife.

Story
My whole life, I’ve been taught to despise shifters. So when I’m hired to track two escaped convicts, I’m suddenly thrust into the world I hate - or thought I did. Yet I’m inexplicably drawn to the alpha of the pack, whose land the convicts may be hiding on. He’s different than any shifter I've ever met - laidback and quick to laugh, caring, and protective. As secrets are revealed, I start to wonder if everything I’ve been raised to believe was a lie, though it may not matter, because it seems like someone wants us dead.

Summary
Jon Erskine had made a good life for himself as one of the top forensic accounts and systems analysts in the country. He doesn't mind working with paranormal clients - after all, he's a shifter himself. However, he could do without all the slurs and derogatory comments. Not all shifters are wolves, bears, or other predators. Still, his expertise and reputation is solid, and Jon is more than capable of holding his own. That is, until Dirk Hollingsworth runs from his office.
Dirk is running out of time. He has to find out who's been stealing from his company before his father turns up for his wedding in three weeks time. Acting on the recommendation of a friend, Dirk turns to Jon, or at least thinks about it. That is, until he catches the man's scent in the doorway of his office and does a runner. Not the proudest moment for one of the proudest of all shifters, but Dirk has a responsibility to his clan and catching the tantalizing scent of a dog isn't going to change anything. Or so he thinks.

Great start to a new series
Okay I loved it & can't wait for the next book in the series. I loved that the dragons have their own voice & if they feel that their human side is being an a&& then they can do something about it. Jon & Dirk were great together as mates. Yes Dirk was an idiot in the beginning running off but his dragon straightened him out. Dirk's dad got what he deserved. Sean Crisden did a great job narrating this one.

Wonderful Dragon shifter romance
I was completely drawn into this story from the start. I've always loved dragon shifter stories, and I enjoyed immensely this pairing of a German Shepherd shifter and a Dragon shifter. Interesting story, yes there was the old trope of can't mate a man because I need an heir, but it was dealt with accordingly. I also loved that the Dragon an its human form had a separate relationship. Jon is a kind, smart, generous, understanding, and loving person and I ache with him when Dirk was being stubborn. Dirk took sometime to warm up to, his Dragon was a huge part of that process. The family drama was entertaining though I knew from early who the culprit was. Now for the narration, Sean Crisden you outdid yourself with this one. What a phenomenal performance, I especially enjoyed your Dragon voices. Thank you for such an amazing listen!

Great narration!
I lóved the narration; in other audiobooks you don’t get the explicit voice of a strong powerful dragon, but Sean Crisden proved why he’s constantly asked to narrate. The story itself was nice; didn’t completely do it for me, but hey, there’s always something in a ebook/audiobook for me and this time it was Sean’s beautiful work 💜
