About this listen
Once upon a time, in an alleyway in the slums of the City of Lockes, a young and somewhat lonely boy named Sam Haversford turns a group of teenage douchebags into stone completely by accident.
Of course, this catches the attention of a higher power, and Sam's pulled from the only world he knows to become an apprentice to the king's wizard, Morgan of Shadows.
When Sam's 14, he enters the Dark Woods and returns with Gary, the hornless gay unicorn, and a half-giant named Tiggy, earning the moniker Sam of Wilds.
At 15, Sam learns what love truly is when a new knight arrives at the castle - Knight Ryan Foxheart, the dreamiest dream to have ever been dreamed.
Naturally, it all goes to hell when Ryan dates the reprehensible Prince Justin, Sam can't control his magic, a sexually aggressive dragon kidnaps the prince, and the king sends them on an epic quest to save Ryan's boyfriend, all while Sam falls more in love with someone he can never have.
Or, so he thinks.

But good lord it was nearly 20 hours of pure joy! Mr Lesley is a fantastic, fantastic narrator and I cherished the multiple unique voices and accents he affected for the different characters (Scottish Kevin was pure gold)
This sounds so weird but I totally have a crush on his Ryan voice.
The story... it’s really Out There, tbh. It’s silly and funny and ridiculous (Gary the Hornless Unicorn) and full of heart, full of all the different kinds of love. It’s worth it. I promise. Listen to the story. Read the story. But listen, too. Mr Lesley’s done a fantastic job here.
ridiculously entertaining

(oh and yes, most of the characters are gay but because this is a fantasy world, everyone in it is cool with that and it’s just who they are and never a Big Deal. There is a little bit of sex towards the end but much more tastefully written than the majority of the ‘paranormal fantasy’ genre!)
Fantastic story, exceptional narrator.

It is a masterpiece of humour and fantasy and it is told in detail, hence the run time. If you enjoy getting totally immerged in a middle-earth epic type of adventure with mythical gay characters, some vulnerable and funny, and some acerbic and funnier, then this is for you and it has a great adventure too. What is not to like?
Michael Lesley, the narrator/actor is quite simply superb! A great interpretation of the book.,
PS: It is much better than the 5 minute preview.
PPS: This is my first ever 5 star review in all categories.
A Middle-Earth Hilarious Epic!
