Summary

There are some friends you'll never forget...no matter how hard you try.

Before: Edie is the friend that Heather has always craved. But one night it goes terrifyingly wrong. And what started as an innocent friendship ends in two lives being destroyed.

After: Sixteen years later Edie is still rebuilding her life. But Heather isn't ready to let her forget so easily. It's no coincidence that she shows up when Edie needs her most.

Now: Edie or Heather? Heather or Edie? Someone has to pay for what happened, but who will it be?

Gripping

I loved this book, the story is gripping and you are left guessing up until the very end as to how it is going to turn out. My only wish was that it didn’t end where it did as I feel there was more to be told.

The narration is excellent, both narrators really bring a depth to the characters and really added to the whole atmosphere of the book. I’d definitely look out for more books narrated by them.

Very enjoyable

A good book with a twist at the end. I like Chloe Massey's narration very much but not quite so keen on the other narrator but overall enjoyed very much. Wanted to know what happened after it ends ......leaves you wondering. Would recommend.

Excellent

This has to be one of the best audio books I've listened to in a long time. The plot was intriguing and kept me wondering what on earth had happened 'before ' The narrators were excellent too. I listened at every single opportunity.

Bloody brilliant

I loved this book, the story, the narrative and performances all brilliant.
I happened to come across The Lies We Told by this author whilst staying in an apartment on holiday and was gripped.
I decided to look her up when I returned, so glad I did.
I loved the way she writes, the stories she tells.
I will be reading everything she’s done.

Excellent!

One of the best books I've listened to in the past 12 months. Had me gripped from outset & throughout. Did not foresee the ending either.
Narrators were both great too.
Can't fault it!

Wow!

What a great story. Kept me guessing until the very end. I loved the increasing tension as the story gathered pace. The narration was fantastic from both narrators, and gave great depth to the characters. Cant recommend enough.

Not quite the most unsettling psychological.......

Not quite the most unsettling psychological thriller I have read this year, I am in a thriller mood lately and this didn't unsettle me and I wasn't on the edge of my seat.

I was intrigued by the characters and the weirdness of the friendship / obsession that developed, I think Heather had the potential to be enough of a threat without the events of the past, in the sense of a 'single white female' type of attachment.

Yes there are some awful things that happen, and I would have probably given it 4 stars if I had gone into it without expecting it to be something different, because of that tagline, it just didn't reach that level for me......

I will read more from the author...

Author keeps readers fooled right up to the end

Would you consider the audio edition of Watching Edie to be better than the print version?

Yes, the book is beautifully read by the two performers who bring the characters to life in a very real way..

Who was your favorite character and why?

The two main characters are beautifully balanced. Their existence depends on one another - the book tells the story of their relationship.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The return by Edie to the scene of her adolescent experience that is to frame the remainder of her life.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There is a point in the book where Edie learns the value of sacrifice.

Any additional comments?

Gritty Northern realism - great stuff!

Emotional, captivating and haunting

I rarely give 5 stars but this one really deserves it!
I was hooked early on and simply couldn't wait to find out more. The "secret" was unravelled very slowly yet satisfyingly . The characters felt real to me and I formed an opinion of each one straight away. This book invites you to cast one of the leads as the victim and the other the aggressor, which I did almost straight away. But in the end you might change your mind, or you might not. The twist at the end is unexpected and the ending was appropriate for rather a sad story - I hate cheesy endings and the conclusion of this story was appropriate for the theme.
It's difficult to describe this book accurately without giving the details away, so all I can say really is that I'd definitely recommend this, the story is interesting and nothing is predictable .
