Summary

They say they have no children. So who did I see at the window?

My darling little boy Albie adores playing at our new neighbours’ house. And after the terrible year we’ve had, I feel so lucky that we can start over in this perfect place, with new friends who treat Albie like the son they never had. He can’t stop talking about the tree house they’re building him, and the cookies they bake together.

But as time passes, something starts to feel wrong. Why don’t they ever open the front door more than a crack? They told me they had no children so who does the small pink tricycle I saw in their hall belong to? And why can I hear a lullaby drifting across the garden when I’m tucking my own boy into bed?

Then, one night, I see a small shadowy figure in their bedroom window…

I thought I’d learned my lesson about trusting the wrong people, but now I’m forced to wonder what this perfect couple are hiding.

And if I try to save that little helpless figure in the window, will I do what I’ve always feared most, and put my beautiful boy’s life in danger…?

Stretched ending

Good story, well performed, good level of sustained unease and tension. But started to stretch the patience of the listener toward the end with some of the unresolved mysteries. Then all was explained very quickly with an ending which had too much explained by unbelievable behaviours.

Ran out of steam

I have enjoyed a lot of KL slater’s work, but this didn’t work for me. I don’t want to give spoilers, suffice to say ages of characters stated make the story impossible and the major twist was kind of pointless and a bit of a fizzer. A shame because other subplots were great. But it didn’t work for me, too many divergent threads

I couldn’t determine the plot, kept me guessing to the very end. Some great twists and turns. Love this author. The Mother I Could have been was super too.

Miss Lucy-price Lewis

As always, K.L. Slater doesn’t disappoint. I have read all of her books and they have me hooked right from the beginning. There are always the well loved twists and turns and gasps as with all the others I’ve read. She is definitely one of my favorite authors. I discovered her because of Lucy’s narration, and although I miss her so much, this narrator did an amazing job. If you’ve never read a Slater book then you’re missing out and should definitely give her a go. Already looking forward to the next one. P.s. I suck at writing reviews so I hope this one isn’t too bad lol.

Wow! Yes!

This is only my se one book from this author. I was meh about the giddy one I tried and because I didn’t dislike it, but wanted something with just a little more oomph, I tried another of hers. And wow. This is exactly the oomph I was hoping for! I think I might try just a few more of her books. This story was a true mystery and kept me guessing until the very end. And I loved the narrator. You will not be disappointed.

Her best yet!

I have read all but one of her books, that one is next. This is by far her best, in my opinion.

True KL Slater

I enjoyed this book as well as the narration but felt it would have been better enhanced with Lucy Price Lewis performance. I enjoy every book she performs.

This had me hooked

This was such a fun listen. The story had me hooked into the mystery right away, trying to guess what was going to happen next. It was really well written and had me feeling very angry at times for the main character, among other emotions. I was really bought into the story. It was a major plus that I really really like the performance of the narrator.

The narrator is horrible!

Tough one to get into, almost deleted several times. The narrator has a very strong accent which made it extremely difficult to follow the story was a bit predictable but had a decent twist toward the end. Starts slow then projects and extinguishes too quick.
