Summary

The gripping new Audible Original from queen of suspense K. L. Slater.

When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers.

My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well.

So, when I was asked to narrate a new book by disappeared novelist Philippa Roberts I jumped at the chance, even if it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex, Hugo, for a few weeks. Hugo, with his perfect new home and his perfect new girlfriend Saskia.

But this isn’t a dream come true. It’s a nightmare.

There’s something hidden in the pages of this book, I’m sure of it. Some clue to Philippa’s disappearance. And I don’t feel safe. I’m being watched. My room has been searched. Saskia has been calling me in tears. If I don’t find answers fast I’ll lose more than my second chance.

I’ll lose my daughter.

A breath-taking new thriller from the number one author of The Marriage and The Widow. If you like Gone Girl, The Girl on The Train and The Wife Between Us then you will love The Narrator.

Home & Work-Life Thriller

...with women as the main characters.
Really well written, plenty of twists that I didn't see coming. I listened to the whole book in two days.
We hear about the home and work-life of Eve Hewitt, a professional audio book narrator. In her personal life she is divorced from the rather controlling Hugo who starts to have ambitions to start sharing custody of their 5 yo daughter Scarlett.
The central plot revolves around Philippa Roberts, a successful author who has gone missing, but leaves behind the manuscript of her final book which may hold clues as to what has happened to her.
The characters are really well crafted by K L Slater. As listeners, we feel for what they are going through.

Another excellent listen from KL Slater

Kim Slater has done it again with this excellent book. Kim is most certainly my favourite author in the psychological drama world, I love how her writing deeply explores the character's minds, backgrounds and potential motives. Her books always keep me hooked till the end. This one had twists I didn't see coming. Brilliant stuff!

Not for me

Ironically I found the narration really difficult, more particularly, that of Eve, the narrator! For me a good audiobook requires neither the story nor the narration to usurp the other but should blend seamlessly.

I found Eve too breathy in her speech and while I realise she’d been through difficult things, she was too insipid. This made it difficult to have any interest in the narrative.

Unlistenable

Couldn’t get past chapter two. I found both narrators extremely jarring and the second sounded like the audio had been speeded up.
I am very sorry to have wasted a credit in this garbage. Buy at your peril. Thank

Superb

I don't often write reviews but I have to write one for this book. It's stunning. Superbly written and engrossingly narrated. This is a book I will remember. Highly recommend!

Loved it

The only downside was I listened to it too quickly. Great story and narration. It's very rare I hear/read a book now where I don't work out the twist early on because I've listened to so many, but this one I had no idea!
