Summary

How do you choose the right kind of therapy?

Third Wave Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has been around for 14 years. However, Third Wave CBT comes in many different forms. It can be hard to find accurate information about the different types of therapy.

This audiobook explains six major types of therapy in detailed, easy to understand terms. Different types of people tend to do better with different types of therapy. This book will help you learn more about CBT and about what specific type of therapy might be best for you.

Inside this book you will learn:

  • What acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is
  • The differences between ACT and CBT
  • What Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is
  • What Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP) is
  • How FAP works
  • What Compassion Informed Psychotherapy (CIP) is
  • The differences between CIP and CBT
  • What Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MCBT) is
  • How MBCT works
  • What Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy (IBCT) is
  • How IBCT works
  • How to pick the best form of therapy for your personality and situation

This book isn’t designed to persuade you that one kind of therapy is better than another. Instead, you will learn about the different types of therapy, and you will learn some tools to help you choose the kind of therapy that will be the most beneficial to you.

Therapy can be a powerful tool for overcoming traumas and coping with mental health issues. However, not all therapeutic approaches are the same. It is critical that you make an informed decision before undergoing therapy.

This book is an invaluable guide as you make this important decision.

Good Job Tom!

So far so good and lots of info. I tend to put audio books down that don't grab my interest right away but I will play it again.

Good and informative

Very American in style and content, but very good for giving the listener an objective angle to base decisions on re which therapy to choose. It gave good explanations to someone who might get either overwhelmed by academic literature, or patronised by more basic information

I learned a lot from this audible

It encourages one to seek professional help in certain more serious circumstances. I could describe this as the flesh and bone behind any self-help program. Informative and comprehensive audible.

Helpful

I found this book truly inspiring and helpful. Tom Shepherd writes an easy to follow self help guide to mastering the benefits of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. The idea behind CBT is that you can change your thoughts and therefore improve your reaction to emotions that you cannot change in situations, helping you with anxiety, stress, and depression to name a few.

Best CBT audio book!

I really enjoyed the approach this audio-book takes. It encourages you to go through slowly, one chapter per week, doing the exercises and really thinking about how you feel and why you feel that way.

I found this book very interesting to listen to.

This was a helpful and informative audible. I suffered with panic attacks when I was in college and I wish it would have been around back then. The audible contains a lot of information about intrusive thoughts, which myself and millions of other people deal with on a daily basis.

Wow!

The techniques contained in this audible are pretty simple and anyone can apply them. However, in order to change your life, you have to take action. If you listen to this audible, but you don't apply the techniques, you'll continue having the same problems you have now.
