About this listen

With one touch of the stone, Tyron receives his Class and his life changes forever.

In an instant his bright and promising future as the scion of two powerful Slayers is torn apart and he must make a decision.

Will he allow his Class to be purged from his soul, or will he cling to it, abandon all that he knows, and rise to power?

Don't miss the start of the next hit LitRPG series from RinoZ, the author of Chrysalis. Book of the Dead takes on all aspects of Necromancy headfirst, from the tactical maneuvering of skeletons, to what it's like spending so much time among the undead.

This story is far more serious than RinoZ's Chrysalis series - there are some jokes but not many - as it has a darker tone. The plot is interesting and dynamic. There is are God's, a system, an invading species and a fear of necromancers. The MC is a badass and what I really like is seeing the POV of a budding necromancer in a society which loathes necromancy. The MC struggles but shows great resilience and intelligence.

I can't wait for more!!!!

Great neco main

if you like classic fantasy stories like wheel of time and stormlight, but wish they had more litrpg in them, this book was made for you. it feels like this book is one step away from not even being litrpg at all and something more like mistborn. the atmosphere is really different to your standard take on the genre with next to no wacky hijinks, references to pop culture or obvious tropes. and it works excellently. there are of course levels and stat sheets, but most of the words used have been switched out for more creative terms that don't feel nearly as modern, for example the system is called 'the unseen' which feels much more like something that medieval people would call a powerful force in the world that explicitly isn't a god. their are still words like stats, classes and levels so its not completely alien but just the fact that characters have to perform a blood ritual every time they want to see their stats or gain levels rather than just shouting weird words into the air and getting floating pc interfaces in return does so much to ground the world.

im still surprised this is the same author that wrote Chrysalis, a book series i dropped early on because it was too wacky for me to take seriously (I mean heck every one of those books has an ant pun as the title and the main character is an ant called Anthony). though looking back on it there were moments, pretty much only when their were native humans on screen, were the book seemed to take itself completely seriously and its at those moments where i can see the same author wrote both of these stories. I hope they make more books like this in future they just do such a good job of it compered with... ant named Anthony does weird isekai shit.

in short, its great, give it a read. its a slow burn though so don't expect the mc to instantly be op (tho he is getting there by the end of book 2, can't wait for 3)

a fascinating take on litrpg

Litrpg where necromancy isn't hand waved into simple "he casted rise dead". Very good ideas, good implementation, fun and interesting characters and a pretty good idea for a setting. What's nice stuff isn't served on a silver platter, some mysteries and unknowns add a nice touch.

Good listen.

GOOD NEWS.

This book is as well written as our favourite ant based adventure.

Characters are well fleshed out [pun intended i think?].

If you are concerned that the fabulous Jeff Hays hasnt narrated this one, fear not - Phil does a fine job.

It is VERY different narration, but in a good way i think [id be concerned about it being TOO similar to chrysalis].

Enjoy!
