About this listen

Ashlock wakes in the courtyard of a demonic sect... as a tree. A tree that eats people.

An odd start to a new life. Almost as strange as the humans flying through the skies on flaming swords and challenging the heavens. After all, this is a world where humans could chase the goal of immortality through the art of cultivation.

But Ashlock is merely a sapling in a desolate courtyard, left alone with his thoughts and unable to speak to those passing him by.

Unless he does something about it...

Every day, he grows stronger as he cultivates and uses a suspicious daily sign-in system that grants him powerful skills, mutations, summons, and items, all in exchange for credits earned from eating flesh and watching the seasons pass by.

But his peaceful life and man-eating ways can only go unnoticed for so long. His Qi-rich bark makes him a target for many young masters. If that isn't bad enough, tensions in the demonic sect are at an all-time high with the Beast Tide festers on the horizon.

Ashlock's only option is to grow faster and stronger than any tree has ever done in the history of the nine realms—all while trying to avoid being turned into firewood.

Very interesting take on the reincarnated cultivation trope. This isn’t one of those super serious books and I had fun reading this throughout this week. Excite for the next book.

I kinda bought this as a throw-away chewing gum listen for a coach trip but I ended up being really impressed by it, it's beautifully narrated and the story is really interesting with great characters that you really grow fond of. Would recommend it.

Exceeded my expectations by a mile

Reborn as a Demonic Tree by @XKARNATION published by @recordedbooks. I absolutely loved this debut novel. It's about a sapling that grows into a carnivorous tree. But Ashlock is more than just a tree - he has the ability to cultivate and gain skills/powers to overcome obstacles.

The writing in this book was phenomenal and at times very comical indeed. For a first novel, @XKARNATION writes like a seasoned pro. The idea that a tree could become an all-powerful hero was an absolutely unique take on the #litRPG genre, which I 🩸 bloody loved ❤️.

The plot is strong too like a massive redwood tree 🌳. My favourite moment was found towards the end of the novel. Here the author brings together the heads of two formerly opposing ⚔️ factions, this created both a sense of adoration and caring in the plot.

⚠️ Spolier Alert ⚠️ the ending of the book is a testament to the strength of Ashlock's resilience: there is a fat fuck-off 🌩️storm that is sent to try and break him down. After a set of incredibly powerful lightning strikes Ashlock is on the verge of death. He wants to give in. He hears a voice promising him a peaceful rest. He also hears the voice of the girls in floods of tears threatening him if he doesn't come back, those who have been with him throughout his journey.

It is an epic ending filled with emotion😢 and I loved it. 📚5/5 ⭐️ #bookreview
