About this listen

When the body of a newly appointed curate is found in a freshly dug grave, Inspector Haze and Lord Redmond are called to investigate. According to friends and family, the unfortunate man was a veritable saint who’d wanted nothing more than to dedicate his life to God and good works, but the savagery of his murder and the attempt to hide his corpse tell a different story.

Facing increasing pressure to solve the case of the “Cleaved Curate”, Daniel and Jason must delve deeper into the life of Sebastian Slade, only to discover that even men of God have their secrets and that the reckoning can be biblical in its scope.

Perfect for fans of C.S. Harris and Anne Perry.

This is book 5 and I do believe these books are getting better. The characters are so good and well presented. I admire how the author has developed their personalities and interactions. The plot was good. I may have guessed the motive mid book, but the investigation was gripping. There's always misdirection. The culprits and key details are not presented until close to the end, so the reader may feel a bit cheated, in the sense that it was impossible to deduce. Still I enjoyed it very much. Can't wait to listen to the next one.

Gripping story

The 5th in the series, and I continue to find these books entertaining, and engaging. Along with the stuffy social norms of the period, and the warm relationships between main characters, the stories still manage to highlight some of the harsh realities of the lives of the poor. I'd never heard of "baby farms" before.

Always an entertaining listen

Yet again another really enjoyable story from this series. The author, characters and narrator were great as usual.

Yet another great listening experience.

I truly like these books, so much that as soon as I finish one I’m already downloading the following one.
The main characters are very easy to like and the mysteries are engaging and believable, in my opinion.

But, once again sorry, I really, really dislike the reader: this is book 5 in the series, I find her lack of enthusiasm inexcusable and unjustifiable!
I totally agree with another reader who wrote that the reader makes women sound insufferable and annoying.

Really enjoying this series

I’m really enjoying this series of books and they are easy to listen to and very well Britain. My only complaint would be that all of the staff seem to have a northern accent which doesn’t really fit with the area. I’m sure that the rate could manager accent that doesn’t sound either Worzel or Lancashire Mill.
