Summary

In the delightful Cotswold village of Carsely, the air is heady with romance. Agatha Raisin is convinced that the new vet has taken a shine to her. But before she can get anywhere, handsome Dr Paul Bladen is accidentally killed while attending to Lord Pendlebury's horse. So was it really an accident? All the evidence points that way, but the circumstances are decidedly suspicious.

Wonderful!

It has been a delight to listen to this book. Such a change... I felt transported back to a more gentle time...with gentle murders!!!! Love books that are set in a village, I shall now download the next one! 😊

Quick, easy, and fun listen.

I discovered the Agatha Raisin series only recently on Audible and it looked like something right up my alley. I am delighted I did because, having read and enjoyed the first two, I now have thirty more books to read! And I love nothing more than a long series to enjoy.
'The Vicious Vet' is a fun, quick and relaxing book that doesn't take itself too seriously. The characters are well written and their little gestures, tics, and peculiarities remind you of neighbours, acquaintances, and people from your Nan's village.
Agatha, the protagonist, is smart and acerbic but utterly obsessed with whomever her current crush is. That is the only thing I didn't like about the series so far - Agatha's desperation and inability to exist without obsessing about a man. There are some funny moments, but overall her fixation with men is really quite sad. I hope this eases as the series progresses.
This is a perfect book for light, easy and quick reading between more challenging works and deserves solid 3 stars.

Long Winded

This story could have been told a lot quicker and some of the plot was ridiculous, James Lacey would no more break into a bank than I would this was, sadly not helped, by the boring narrator, I didn’t look to see who was narrating and really disappointed by the monotone flat voice, will look for Penelope Kieth in future as she breathes life and excitement into all of the characters and their voices

Disappointing

Much preferred the first one. Far too much focus on men as if they are essential to women having a life

Good narration

I like this narrator. Not annoyingly plummy and regional accents believable. I will listen to her again

Good book

it would be useful if the order of the books were written on them or in the synopsis.

Easy listen

Unlike other reviews I prefer this narrator to the awful nasal tone of Penelope Keith
Decent story, just a bit too short

Excellent story but needs Penelope Keith narrating

I love the Agatha Raisin books and have read them all, some many times over. I also have all the books on audible. I need to be honest hear and say that the narration spoiled this book for me. Because I listened to them in order I listened to Quiche of Death then came onto this one. I was very glad that Penelope Keith has done the others as this one was not read with the same gusto, there is no variation in the different character voices and I was struggling to listen to the end. The first time I listened to it I stopped and went onto the next book. There is something missing from this version. Please redo this one with the same narrator as all the others, there is a reason Penelope Keith is so good at Agatha.
