Summary
January 1954. Mists cover the hills around Selchester. Someone at the research facility known as the Atomic is leaking secrets to Soviet Russia, and when nuclear scientist Bruno Rothesay goes missing, the British Intelligence Services are convinced he's the mole. Hugo Hawksworth isn't so sure. Then a body turns up, and Hugo's instincts are proven correct. But if Rothesay wasn't selling secrets to the Soviets, who is?
As Hugo digs deeper into buried connections and unlikely coincidences, he knows there's more to this case than his London superiors believe. But following his instincts will pit him against the Establishment - and tangle him once again in the poisonous legacy of the late Lord Selchester.
As he closes in on the truth, Hugo finds himself confronted by an adversary who will stop at nothing, in a case that will prove the most personal of his career.
With a touch of Downton Abbey, a whisper of Agatha Christie and a nod to John Le Carré, A Matter Of Loyalty is the third and final book in this delightfully classic and witty murder-mystery series.

Loved this, and sad that there'll be no more
A nice continuation of the stories in the two preceding books, with the characters and their relationships developing. A mysterious disappearance, a body, suspects, an unpleasant Special Branch inspector, twists and turns... All beautifully narrated by Michael Page.
So sad to learn of the author's untimely death. She will be missed by loved ones, friends and readers. I would have loved to read the rest of the stories she had in mind for these characters, but Anselm Audley left enough pointers when he finished his mother's work to show what she probably had in mind.

Sad last in series
I loved the 3 books in the series and understand why the son of the author is not writing anymore but will be sad not to be able to delve into the life of Hugo and friends anymore.

The last part of the Selchester tro
I so enjoyed the three books as I have all her books and am so sorry there are not more of them. The Selchester trilogy has left one wanting more and it was only the fact her son finished it that it was completed. Would have loved more but sadly it was not to be.

Long on Narrative,Short on Action
This is, just like its 2 companion books, well read and well written. The plots are extensively researched, cleverly constructed and fiendishly engaging - saving the best for the inevitable "twist" towards the end. The English is beautifully expressed British Standard English, avoiding the trend towards mid-Atlantic or even, American English. Michael Page's characterisations are superb, his voice is exceptionally well suited for the period and his diction is excellent. This is another light-hearted, entertaining, jolly tale that's strength lies in its discriptive narrative. The action, when it comes, is maintained at a plausibly "normal" level - without the intensity of Bourne or Bond. Hugo, is no less a hero, despite his current physical, social, domestic and professional situation.
This is a fine conclusion to a tremendous little canon and I am happy to recommend all 3 as the best way to enjoy each individually.

Wonderful mystery trilogy, difficult narration
I've enjoyed all three books in the series and certainly appreciate that the final book was completed by the author's son (thank you!). However, I've only just endured the narration, finding the narrator's voice grating on my ears. The accents are not always convincing and the production quality is poor.

Engrossing
This book was right up my street and I can’t say I have any negatives. The characters came to life in this murder mystery as in the others preceding it. I’m sorry that there won’t be any more in the series but am grateful that this one saw the light of day at all. Narration was top notch.
