The Chessmen of Mars is the fifth novel in the Barsoom Series by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Princess Tara, the daughter of John Carter and Dejah Thoris, receives prospective suitors at her father’s court. "The Return of Tarzan" is a novel by American writer Edgar Rice Burroughs, the second in his series of twenty-four books about the title character Tarzan. It was first published in the pulp magazine New Story Magazine in the issues for June through December 1913; the first book edition was published in 1915 by A. C. McClurg.

A spy, Albert Werper, has been sent by Tarzan's long time foe, Achmet Zek, to abduct Jane. Out of Time's Abyss is a science fiction novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, published in 1918. The story takes place on the remote planet of Caprona, where a group of humans, including the protagonist Bradley, are stranded and must fight for survival against prehistoric creatures and a rival group of humans. Throughout the novel, Bradley and the other characters face numerous challenges and must use their intelligence, strength, and courage to overcome them. In "The Oakdale Affair", we follow further adventures of Bridge. Bridge finds himself sheltering from a storm with a mysterious thief. The pair rescue a young woman who's run afoul of her gangster boyfriend. It seems that everybody wants the loot that the thief stole, and somewhere out there is a kidnapped young woman who is the key to it all. Bridge will have a lot of juggling to do to keep gangsters, gypsies, and private detectives in line and solve the mystery at hand.

Just when Tarzan, Lord of the Apes, looks to be settled happily into family life with his wife, Jane, and their son, Jack, Tarzan’s arch-enemy, Nikolas Rokoff, kidnaps the infant boy. With his son’s life set to be forfeit to a tribe of African cannibals, Tarzan enlists the help of the beasts of the jungle to rescue his son.

Llana of Gathol is a unique volume in John Carter’s Barsoom series. While the previous books featured a single story throughout, Llana of Gathol is an anthology of four shorter tales written later in Edgar Rice Burroughs’ life. These stories are, The Ancient Dead, The Black Pirates of Barsoom, Yellow Men on Mars and Invisible Men of Mars. These are also considered to be the John Carter stories with the most humor, and explore the life of an older John Carter, Llana of Gathol being his granddaughter.

At the conclusion of The Gods of Mars, John Carter's wife and two other women were locked in a slowly rotating prison attached to the Temple of the Sun, each of whose hundreds of cells are only open to the outside world once every year.
