This magnificent biography of Henry VIII is set against the cultural, social and political background of his court - the most spectacular court ever seen in England - and the splendour of his many sumptuous palaces. An entertaining narrative packed with colourful description and a wealth of anecdotal evidence, but also a comprehensive analytical study of the development of both monarch and court during a crucial period in English history.

Here is a gripping account of the major postwar trial of the Nazi hierarchy in World War II. The Nuremberg Trial brilliantly recreates the trial proceedings and offers a reasoned, often profound examination of the processes that created international law. From the whimpering of Kaltenbrunner and Ribbentrop on the stand to the icy coolness of Goering, each participant is vividly drawn.

Story215
When Allied fighters were trapped behind enemy lines, one branch of military intelligence helped them escape: MI9. The organization set up clandestine routes that zigzagged across Nazi-occupied Europe, enabling soldiers and airmen to make their way home. Secret agents and resistance fighters risked their lives and those of their families to hide the men. Drawing on declassified files and eye-witness testimonies from across Europe and the United States, Helen Fry provides a significant reassessment of MI9’s wartime role.

In May 1941 the German battleship Bismarck, accompanied by heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, broke out into the Atlantic to attack Allied shipping. The Royal Navy's pursuit and subsequent destruction of the Bismarck was an epic of naval warfare. In this new account of those dramatic events at the height of the Second World War, Iain Ballantyne draws extensively on the graphic eyewitness testimony of veterans to construct a thrilling story, mainly from the point of view of the British battleships, cruisers, and destroyers involved.

When the Nazis invaded Hungary in 1944, they sent virtually the entire Jewish population to Auschwitz. A Jew and a medical doctor, the prisoner Dr. Miklos Nyiszli was spared death for a grimmer fate: to perform "scientific research" on his fellow inmates under the supervision of the man who became known as the infamous "Angel of Death" - Dr. Josef Mengele. Nyiszli was named Mengele's personal research pathologist. In that capacity he also served as physician to the Sonderkommando, the Jewish prisoners who worked exclusively in the crematoriums and were routinely executed after four months.

Originally released on paperback in 2008. Jack Cameron is a Scottish soldier commanding one of the Irish companies attached to the Jacobite army of Prince Charles Edward Stuart in 1746. A seemingly run of the mill mission to recover a wagonload of ammunition will see Jack, the likeable Franco-Irish regulars he commands and their brave highland comrades become embroiled in a dirty war against English soldiers and pro-government clans who are hell bent on seeing the last hopes of the House of Stuart extinguished once and for all.

In April 1975, the Vietnam War ended not with a treaty or a victory parade, but with helicopters lifting from a collapsing city. Operation Frequent Wind was the final evacuation of Saigon, carried out as South Vietnam disintegrated and the last American personnel prepared to leave a war that had exhausted political will, trust, and time. In Operation Frequent Wind, Miles Dunsford delivers a clear, human account of those final days. Moving from Washington’s political paralysis to the pressure inside the U.S.

Operation Gold is one of the most extraordinary—and least believed—Cold War operations ever attempted: a secret tunnel dug beneath divided Berlin so Britain and America could listen directly to Soviet communications. It sounds like the plot of a spy thriller, yet it happened in real life, in a city where every street corner had eyes, every building had informants, and every shadow seemed to belong to someone else. This book takes you into that world, where engineering became espionage, and where the ground itself became a battleground.

The vivid, fast-paced account of the siege of Khe Sanh told through the eyes of the men who lived it. For seventy-seven days in 1968, amid fears that America faced its own disastrous Dien Bien Phu, six thousand US Marines held off thirty thousand North Vietnamese Army regulars at the remote mountain stronghold called Khe Sanh. It was the biggest battle of the Vietnam War, with sharp ground engagements, devastating artillery duels, and massive US air strikes.

During the Cold War, the most decisive battles were often the ones no one ever saw. While missiles stood on alert and submarines prowled the oceans, a quieter war unfolded beneath the surface, fought with patience, engineering brilliance, and extraordinary nerve. Operation Ivy Bells was one of the boldest operations of that hidden conflict, a mission so audacious that its success depended entirely on remaining invisible.

Operation Mongoose is the untold story of America’s most relentless covert campaign against Fidel Castro’s Cuba, launched in the bitter aftermath of the Bay of Pigs disaster. What began as a demand for payback became a secret war of sabotage, infiltration, propaganda, and plots—an invisible struggle conducted in the shadows, yet powerful enough to shake the entire Cold War. With vivid narrative clarity, this book takes you behind closed doors where intelligence officers and political leaders convinced themselves that pressure could break a revolution.
