Summary

Laugh-out-loud, deeply insightful, and emotion-filled essays from multi-talented actress, comedian, podcaster, and writer Casey Wilson.

Casey Wilson has a lot on her mind and she isn’t afraid to share. In this dazzling collection, each essay skillfully constructed and brimming with emotion, she shares her thoughts on the joys and vagaries of modern-day womanhood and motherhood, introduces the not-quite-typical family that made her who she is, and persuasively argues that lowbrow pop culture is the perfect lens through which to examine human nature.

Whether she’s extolling the virtues of eating in bed, processing the humiliation over her father’s late in life perm, mourning her mother's passing, or revealing her patented method for keeping the mystery alive in a marriage, Casey is witty, candid, and full of poignant and funny surprises. Humorous dives into her obsessions and areas of personal expertise - self-help, nice guys, cool girls (not her), and how to receive visitors in the bath - are matched by touching meditations on female friendship, anger, grief, motherhood, and identity.

Listening to The Wreckage of My Presence is like spending time with a close friend - a deeply passionate, full-tilt, joyous, excessive, compulsive, shameless, hungry-for-it-all, loyal, cheerleading friend. A friend who is ready for any big feelings that come her way - and isn’t afraid to embrace them.

Laugh out loud funny

I’ve been listening to Casey for years on Bitch Sesssh and have been anticipating the release of this book. She has not disappointed! Wow! Laughing out loud. So grateful Casey did her own audiobook - could listen to her for hours which I am currently doing!

Near perfect

I’ve never written a review for a book before but felt compelled. This book might possibly be the most perfect blend of funny, heartfelt, engaging and endearing. I laughed out loud and teared up. All the feels! I was already a Casey Wilson fan to begin with, but I am even more so now.

A good laugh and an even better cry.

Can't complement this book enough. Casey is a brilliant writer who has you hanging on every word. This book touches on all the fears we have as women but still manages to make you laugh. Highly recommend this book... especially the audio book!

it's ok

I found some of this book annoying...kind of like listening to the Kardashian's talk...mostly vapid & annoying. I was hoping this book would get better but sadly, it was just ok. There were a few moments that were likable- when she talks about her children, husband & family but the rest just seemed self-serving & an opportunity to name drop. The worst part of this book is the baby talk part at the beginning...ugh. painful to listen to.

A Gem

Run, dont walk. Well, in this case grab some head phones and enjoy the ride. Casey delivers a heartfelt, funny, witty memoir that will take you up down and around corners that you did not see coming. I love her family, the stories, and hearing her voice. Ailene’s you know it is going to be good! So cop a squat in your Chrysler Pacifica and locate your pee cup because our girl has some stories to tell.

All the things

What a tremendous accomplishment. This book managed to break my heart, open my mind, make me laugh out loud, and look inward. This is somehow one of the most relatable memoirs I’ve read in years.
