Story
Peregrine strives to live up to the ideal of her people, the Latki - and to impress her parents: affectionate Lord Tove, who despises only the Bamarre, and stern Lady Klausine. Perry runs the fastest, speaks her mind, and doesn't give much thought to the castle's Bamarre servants, whom she knows to be weak and cowardly. But just as she's about to join her father on the front lines, she is visited by the fairy Halina, who reveals that Perry isn't Latki-born. She is Bamarre.
Summary
In this stand-alone fairy tale, Princess Annie is the younger sister to Gwen, the princess destined to be Sleeping Beauty. When Gwennie pricks her finger and the whole castle falls asleep, only Annie is awake, and only Annie-blessed (or cursed?) with being impervious to magic - can venture out beyond the rose-covered hedge for help. She must find Gwen's true love to kiss her awake. But who is her true love? The irritating Digby? The happy-go-lucky Prince Andreas, who is holding a contest to find his bride? The conniving Clarence, whose sinister motives couldn't possibly spell true love? Joined by one of her father's guards, Liam, who happened to be out of the castle when the sleeping spell struck, Annie travels through a fairy tale land populated with characters both familiar and new as she tries to fix her sister and her family - and perhaps even find a true love of her own.

An excellent fairytale adventure!
If you could sum up The Wide-Awake Princess in three words, what would they be?
Magical, wonderful, entertaining!
What other book might you compare The Wide-Awake Princess to, and why?
The story is based loosley around traditional fairy tales, such as sleeping beauty and hansel and grettel. However, the story has a unique take on all of these, as the writer has cleverly adapted them to fit into a much bigger story, the quest of Annie (the wide awake princess). Also the heroine, Annie, is unique from any other fantasy story I have read, in that she is unaffected by magic. I really liked this aspect as it made the story all the more unique and interesting.
What about Emily Bauer’s performance did you like?
I really enjoyed Emily Bauer's performance. Her voice remained engaging, and animated throughout.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No real emotional reaction, there were points which were amusing although I wouldn't say it say it was hilarious, but I don't think it needed to be either.
Any additional comments?
I thououghly enjoyed this book. I am looking forward to adding the other two books in the series to my library collection sometime soon. If you enjoy fantasy/adventure stories I would certainly recommend this book!

Better Than Expected
Would you consider the audio edition of The Wide-Awake Princess to be better than the print version?
I would have to say that the printed version doesn't do the book enough justice. When I listened to the novel I felt so moved.
What other book might you compare The Wide-Awake Princess to and why?
I would compare this novel to other princess related fairy tale mess ups like the Princess Academy Series (not on audiobooks). I have to say I love it when authors put their own twist on novels.
Have you listened to any of Emily Bauer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have to say this is just as good as the next book in the series, which I listened to as well. She is simply amazing.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I though it was absolutely amazing. As soon as it ended I bought the second book and I kept on with the series. I absolutely love the series.
Any additional comments?
I would give this a 10 out of 10.
