Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Story
As anarchy and civil war took grip across the globe, Britain was quarantined. The press was nationalized, and martial law, curfews, and rationing were implemented. It wasn't enough. An evacuation was planned. The inland towns and cities of the United Kingdom were to be evacuated to defensive enclaves being built around the coast and the Scottish Highlands and in the Irish Republic. For George Tull and the other residents of the Waverly-Price Retirement Home, walking to the coast is not an option.

Story
When Elizabeth Middleton leaves England to join her father at the edge of the New York wilderness, she does so with a strong will and an unwavering purpose: to teach school to children of all races - black, white, and Native American. It is December of 1792 when she arrives in a cold climate unlike any she has ever experienced. And she meets a man different from any she has ever encountered - a white man dressed like a native. His name is Nathaniel Bonner, also known to the Mohawk people as Between-Two-Lives. Elizabeth defies her father and shatters convention, but her ultimate destiny, here in the heart of the wilderness, lies in the odyssey to come: trials of faith and flesh, and passion born amid Nathaniel's own secrets and divided soul.

Unexpected Rape scene
Chapter 10 there is a scene where a character is forced into S+M sex without consent. The book goes on to out right say the character was scared but felt they had to do it. There should be a warning for this kind of content.

ALL the emotions!
Well, where do I start!? I was going to wait until I had finished the entire series before I left a review, but 6 books in and I just HAVE to say how much I am Loving this series! I love the post-apocolyptic genre and have read/listened to so many different series, but this one just went to my No.1 favourite! I've never felt so many different emotions with a book as I have with this. so many proper laugh out loud moments my family think I'm nuts. I've had tears in my eyes from the sad moments and felt anger at the bitter moments. Feeling all the emotions of the characters as the story and the telling of it is so well done!
My journey with Howie, Dave, Blowers, Cookie, Nick and Clarence continues and I can't wait to hear what happens next! especially now they have 'Dog'
*Spoiler Alert*
don't read on if you don't want any story given away!
*******
a little gutted that Paco didn't make it would have been interesting to see if he tried to change the dynamic of the group with his 'entitled attitude if he had survived!
I'm interested now to see what develops with Maddox's group.

THE BEST
Any additional comments?
This is my favorite book of the series and I have read and listened to all of them out so far (just finished Nineteenth Day). I love the dog, Meredith, and her story which is told in Part 6 . I also love Paco, the actor who stars in Part 6. His transformation was fascinating, I grew to like him as much as Howie, Dave and the rest of the gang. Meredith the German Shepard becomes a very prominent character in future books. Paco also resurfaces in future books.
This series is awesome. Haywood tells great stories and does a wonderful job at character development and dialog. I really cannot believe that a publisher has not snapped up this series. It keeps me riveted. Also I must say that the reader, Dan Morgan, does an excellent job with this series. He is an asset for Haywood's books. The characters come alive with Morgan's reading. You can tell who is talking in the book from Morgan's "acting" out their voices. Really cool!!

There has never been something so engaging as life through a dogs eyes. I am so happy that RR Hayward took the risk to narrate from the K-9s perspective. This is a must listen to. Now the story of Action Jack.. thats another thing entirely, lol, but a wonderful arc in and of itself

The dog!!
I loved listening to the point of view of the dog in this story! Having two German Shepherds of my own, I could really relate to the strength and loyalty of the dog. I listened to most of the story with my dogs lying in bed beside me. Any dog lover who listens to this book is going to experience a whole mix of emotions; fear, excitement, worry, sorry, hope and kinship. I can't wait to start the next book!
This is one of the best in the series so far. Unlike most series, this one has not become mundane. It continues to evolve in new and exciting ways, just like the zombie virus in the series.

Superb
The book is wonderfully written, creating intense drama, but with releases of levity at just the right places. The author creates marvelous characters that interact realistically amongst each other. He introduces new characters in parallel storylines; not really parallel but more like storylines that seem far apart, but grow closer until the lines intersect in an inevitable conclusion.
Rarely do I choke up and my eyes leak while reading/listening to a book, but they did in this one.
I've come to the conclusion that the reader of this series is the best I've heard of any audible books I've ever "read". His characters are wonderfully distinct so that he could narrate without identifying them, and I would know which one is speaking. He creates the intensity of scenes nicely with inflection and speed of reading. The book is written well, and he reads it masterfully.
