total rubbish
what a sack of crap. I really enjoyed most of the books up until now. but this one takes the biscuit. even the most mundane and menial tasks have to be discussed in length with at least 3 people, rather like a Dragon Ball Z episode leading up to a fight. "shall I go and stand over there. no, I think it would be better if I go and stand over there. on the other hand it would be even better if someone else went and stood over there". seriously it is that boring

I just didn't like it
All I wanted was howie and the gang, and I got lily and a racist guy, I mean sure it's good to know how to fort is doing but not for like, 11 hours. I dont really care about Lily, I like the Irish girl and I feel bad for nick and it was all really boring. The last book ended on a good cliff hanger and the fact that the next book didnt even give you a conclusion not even a metion of howie or anything is pretty shit, this is the only bad review I have written for this series, this is my most favourite series pretty much of all time, and this book was just a massive let down.
Also, I was also hoping this book would get me through the 11 hour flight I was on at the time..but it made it worse

3 reasons not to buy this book.
Before i give the 3 reasons not to buy this book i have to give a shout to Joe Jameson he is the man that got me through this book, if not for his tallent this book would have been unfinishable.
1) None of the team are in this book, no Howie, no Dave, absolutly none of the team who the fans know and love. The only character who i even half care about is lilly and thats still pretty meh if i'm being honest, if she dies i'll probably feel a little sad but nothing major.
2) The story in this book is like slowly pushing a screwdriver through your own eye. The pace is that of a snail thats been dead been 4 weeks, if this book was 2-4 chapters in a book that was about the team it would have been ok but the fact that this is its own book makes me so sad. The antaganist of this book isn't the evil infection that wants to create "one race" by infecting and killing every human. No its a fat, idiotic, racist white bloke. OMG the most dangerous opponent yet. I get it this book is trying to be politically correct but all honesty all that it did is show that Lilly cant do what Howie does all she can do is left the fort nearly fall from someone whos thick.
3) Poltical correctness is shoved down your neck at every twist and turn. These books have sometimes gave a PC push but in the early books (1-10) it was like a child poking you in stomach, not subtle but could be ingored then it turned into a teenager poking you in the chest, asking for a slap (books 11-15) then its was a grown man slapping you in the face again and again(16-18) and this book was the politcally correct Mountain crushing your head. Btw if you dont know what i'm talking about search on youtube for The Mountain vs The Viper Game Of Thrones and you'll get what i mean.

A big let down of a fine series so far
Another great performance, but the story is just getting too long and dull.
Also too many polarising characters as well. Tommy in this story is so over the top deplorable that his fate was flagged within minutes.
All in all this felt like a guide to misery. The end was obvious, the characters wooden and the whole situation felt preachy.
Poor show

Great series but XIX is a bit of a filler
I’ve overall very much enjoyed this series from the start, but the books do have their occasional low points where the narrative becomes frustratingly irritating. (For example the Marcy/Howie love you hate you teen romance-like trash)!
Book XIX undoubtably has some great moments and I’ll continue to Part XX, but for me, XIX was not as good as previous episodes, at times becoming a zombie apocalypse version of EastEnders or some other “socially aware” soap opera.
The story focuses completely on the fort with all of the main characters completely absent. With very few exceptions, the new/ temporary characters are generally pretty weak often becoming one-dimensional stereotypes. Particularly annoying are the working-class English survivors, generally depicted as lazy, useless, racist, thieving scum. Minority groups on the other hand are depicted as, well, none of those things... Something of a simplistic metropolitan liberal view of the world from the author.
Overall and stereotypes aside, I think this one was a bit of a filler in the series and not the best.
That said, I am looking forward to the next one BUT seriously hope the author gets over what appears to be his “Woke” period in the the next book.

Disappointed
I've listened to the whole series now, and though I am invested I am also waiting for the finish, closure before the story and prevailing morals can become stale and stagnant.
So in general - for all the books
I have enjoyed listening to pretty much every book, most have gained some sort of emotional response from me, be it anger, sadness, laughter (and quite a bit of that). The books aren't perfect by any means. Howie's 'Do the right thing, for the right reason' seems to flitter in and out of importance for him. Some survivors are told to head for the fort, whilst others are seemingly ignored (those who are with the people on the immune list, for example). Other characters have similar inconsistencies, and this I can handle - 20 odd books must be hard to write content for. Then we get to Part 19 on the audiobook side of things.
This is another tale from the fort, not a bad idea at all. I am guessing that for this part of the tale R.R.Heywood has met, fallen in love with, and eloped with J.K.Rowling who supplied some plot back peddling and Dianne Abott supplied the character list.- because never before have I encountered such a political correct statement as I have with this book. So one of the main characters from the books is actually a closet homosexual and harbours resentment to other main characters? Another of the stars of this episode is also homosexual, suddenly a lot of the main 'good" characters are from ethnic minorities and the bad guys are white, racist homophobes. On top of this, all of the people who are not from either camp sit idly by and say nothing and do nothing whilst the 'plot-line' continues. Nothing in this book is believable, and that's coming from someone invested in a book series about a telepathic zombie virus with collective consciousness.
I hate to admit it but I was probably angrier listening to this book than I was when Joe Jameson first narrated Dave and Paula's lines from the book, I have to say that I think Joe has grown into the role and does a sterling job now - unfortunately this is not something I can say for this episode.
R.R.Heywood I don't know if you read these reviews but it is time to cut lose and close the series, make it good, make it epic, make it a 3 parter if you like - but all good things come to an end and I would rather see this series brought to an end because you wrote about it rather than me looking elsewhere for my entertainment. We all know where it is heading but it's the tale we want to read/hear, you can even put a twist at the end, now that would be epic.
p.s. not everyone says 'so' when talking about things. It's not always 'so' hot, 'so' nice, 'so' boring or 'so' rude.

Depressing
Eighteen books at 20 a pop for one story and while the overall plot slowly dribbled out the character development and banter made it a worthwhile listen. Now the Nineteenth. The plot went nowhere, it was eleven hours of preaching, politics, repetition and political correctness run amok. The other days left me hopeful this left me depressed.
Spoliers. Lily does a complete shift. She snarks off to Kyle that Howie won't be happy as if he had no legit reason to hold back info. Shades of an earlier day - Howie's not happy with the fort and everyone will die. Lily doesn't want answers or further info. She's mad at the team for leaving even if they had to go to protect the fort. Sex with Nick is disgusting, a mistake, and now wrong, not love. She was brave, smart, thinks ahead, but doesn't notice the fort is falling apart.
All these strong personalities but when a new woman weaves a flimsy story of rape Pea and the rest believe her and jump on the bandwagon. No one stops Dr. Lisa from snarking off all over the place. The adults in the room left. The only people you can hate are the unwashed, the over weight with double chins and white males with tribal tattoos. If so you are automatically a racist, rapist and murder. Old, male and white, you are worthless. The political correctness and negativity was unrelenting and repetitive. Did we really have to hear anti-Muslim and pro-British chants over and over?
A new character, Mary is rude, obnoxious, angry and bashes her way into places, carries a giant feminist ship on her shoulder and within two days she and Lily are kissing and develop a potential sexual relationship. Pressure unrelenting - -but lots of hours listening to tea and coffee breaks, section head discussion and sex, sex.
By the time it gets to who made the virus, catch the bad guys or find them dead, or a final battle, the end of the story, the title will be 50 shades of undead. Does the author know where this is going or did he rush out a book for the money.

First disappointment
I am a huge fan of this series. I look forward to every book that comes out. This story just drug on and annoyed me. From a main character standpoint, it went nowhere. It was a filler book introducing unrealistically cruel characters while also introducing incredible new passive qualities to the characters that have to this point been pivotal. I stopped listening to the story out of shear irritation only to go back to it and be annoyed again. It was a disservice to sell this as a progression to the story line. It should have been a peripheral tale although it would still be bad at that. It may be enough to drive me away from the series.

Not my favorite.
So what's next? An entire book from the Viewpoint of the Saxon? Too much blah blah blah.
the Fort may have been an integral part of the story at the beginning, but it faded to background, where it should have remained, a definite part of the story but not the focal point.
They're certainly could have been sections of the story that continued with howie and his group, as well as what was happening at the fort. Several other books in this series have followed more than one storyline in this manner.
Other than this one instance, I have enjoyed the books thus far, and I hope the next one returns to the previous style of writing.

No Howie, no Dave and no zombies. I have listened to every book in this series and I loved them. I love the characters in all the other books, very funny and for most part a very positive feel. This one is depressing. It was nothing like the other books in the series.

Skip this book, next books recap will cover all.
It has become a story about the descriptions than a plot. This book alone has repeated a variant of an incident that had been done twice now. Differences are that it took a complete book to describe. Spent more time than most on character building that was done very well, just to remove them. What was focused in this book was over kill for the days it represents. that leads me to believe this was just a story arc. in total, skip this book, and listen to the next.

Disappointed
My son and I are huge fans of this series. I loved all the other books in this series, but not this one. The story just drug on too slow, and never spent any time with Howie and his group. I felt like I was listening to a side story, and not a book from this series. I am left feeling like I am still waiting for the next book.

Where was Howie, Dave & the Gang?
Disappointed on many fronts - love this series, but not this installment. First, a little too much in politics - authors need to stay away from that , unless that is what he story is all about.
& totally unrealistic that a 16 year old is in charge of a community . Nope sorry - not buying it.
& the time frame moves too slow- when in hell are we going to get to where they are dealing with winter ?
19 books & it only covers 3 weeks. & in that time a man who has no military experience or really no experience in leadership or survivors like or combat , becomes the leader of a crew of young inexperienced & they become a mighty force in just a couple of days...........................................
In spite of all these flaws I do like the series because the characters are likable.
