About this listen

Celebrating 25 Years as a New York Times Bestseller — Over 16 Million Copies Sold

It’s no wonder that The Power of Now has sold over 16 million copies worldwide and has been translated into over 30 foreign languages. Much more than simple principles and platitudes, the book takes readers on an inspiring spiritual journey to find their true and deepest self and reach the ultimate in personal growth and spirituality: the discovery of truth and light. In the first chapter, Tolle introduces listeners to enlightenment and its natural enemy, the mind. He awakens readers to their role as a creator of pain and shows them how to have a pain-free identity by living fully in the present. The journey is thrilling, and along the way, the author shows how to connect to the indestructible essence of our Being, “the eternal, ever-present One Life beyond the myriad forms of life that are subject to birth and death.” Featuring a new preface by the author, this paperback shows that only after regaining awareness of Being, liberated from Mind and intensely in the Now, is there Enlightenment.

I’d say this book should be compulsory but that would be pointless and against the very ethos of it.
Read. Think about it. Sit still and in silence and appreciate it. Let it change your thinking.

This popularity of this title stirred my interest. A quick google search revealed a lot of people who found its contents to be life changing and I've since heard of some groups that meet regularly to discuss its content or "teachings". I was a little sceptical but curious none the less. Eckhart Tolle's voice is very mellow and soothing so it makes for easy listening. I like the way he has alternate voices posing questions on his teachings which he then responds to (though at one point in a somewhat frustrated/condescending manner - which I found rather hilarious given his calm demeanour) It gets a bit preachy in places with frequent references to god, and was a little bit far-fetched in other places. For the most part however I felt there was some very interesting ideas here that I could apply in some small way to my own life, such as letting go of past experiences through which you identify yourself with and focusing too much on a future that might never be. Although I loved his idea of relinquishing all time, even he admits himself that's its not very practical in today's world. Overall it made me feel grateful for the wonderfully imperfect circumstances which I find myself in right now - Cheers Eckhart!

A Very Worthy Listen

This audiobook is very deep. I do not think I would have been able to read it as a book as I would have found it very heavy going and I would have missed out.

Someone commented on the author's "monotone" voice but I think his voice is quite soothing to listen to. Its a voice who belongs to someone who is at peace with the world.

This book is a little gem and will teach you how to create space for yourself in our busy world.

Thought provoking
