Summary
After participating in the empire's vassal war, Matt, Liz, and Aster now have a fire nipping after their heels. Or rather, their new manager, Luna. And she demands their best at all times, or she will drive them off The Path of Ascension.
With the Tier-10 tournament looming in front of them, the gang is going to have to dig deep if they want to continue on the path, but Luna isn't the only one who has plans.
Can Matt, Liz, and Aster survive the machinations of a Tier-40 who has created several Ascenders before? Or will they simply be another statistic on The Path?
Don't miss book four of this action-packed fantasy adventure that blends everything you love about LitRPG with xianxia.
About the series: This is a mix between LitRPG and xianxia. It's like a car that looks like a LitRPG with dungeons and skills, but the interior and engine are all xianxia. It features a magic system and progression system that are logically and internally consistent, as well as realistic fight scenes and a rational MC.

Pretty good
Enjoyable story, worth a listen. Could use more depth and a faster pace. Mythos is a bit vague.

Love the series
Really enjoy the world building but the book felt somewhat like a filler, a lot around rift building and less action than other books. Seemingly set up well for more action in book 5

Excellent fleshing out of elements
I just enjoyed the book, there are time skips, which unless you expected to listen to repetitive training that they would most certainly continue throughout. Expect years to skip by as if it were days in some cases. The author does an excellent job at giving senses of days and progress and also divulging huge swathes of time.
Looking forward to the next one :)

Great addition
Originally skips a bit if you originally listened to book 3 (not the omnibus/box set). But, the story is a great continuation of the story. I can't wait for the tournament in the next installment. Tournament sagas are my favourite

well 3.5 roundet up to 4
I like the series! but this one sounded like a filler. the bits with actual story where fun but most was repetition. sometimes 2-3 sentence after another with only slight alterations but basically the same sentence. could have Ben crunshed together by a lot and would have been better for it. hope this is not a Trent for the next books! will see and hope

Skip this one.. seriously
Books 1-3 have been some of my favourite of this year. 4 was a shocking and complete waste of time.
TLDR, they train and train and train and train and train and train and train and train. Boring filler for the entire book. rift theory did nothing, potions did nothing, ice cream was eaten. but now they are like a decade ahead and a strong. Now you know the entire book just wait for 5.

OK but not great.
Put "eye of the tiger" on repeat and prepare yourself on an epic training montage. As said this book is mostly a training montage some character building and a tiny bit of story. So if you are strapped for cash skip this one and buy the next one in this series.
I sound more negative than I am. This book is of the same standard as the others in the series, the narration is good and so is the story, the little of it there is.

Wait for book 5. Keep that credit in your pocket.
I’ll start by saying that I love the Path of Ascension books. I am thoroughly invested in discovering how Matt, Liz and Aster’s powers grow and evolve and how the pieces on the board will move for the looming wars and tournaments.
With that being said…this whole book was just one giant filler of absolutely fuck all..
Fillers can be entertaining and fun, this however was not that. At all. I am not kidding or trying to be rude. Like I said it is one of my favorite series to boot, but this installment is just not it. I’ve only finished it purely out of principle. This one is just not good. At all.
First, It meanders on and on about rift theory that in the end just culminates to absolutely nothing worthwhile at all. It served no purpose in meaningfully furthering the story or bring in stakes or ramifications that would justify the insane amount of time spent on this topic.
Second, In four sentences or less complete decades are just skipped forward with nothing to show for. It could’ve been a deep-dive journey through multiple character development arcs or world and lore building or even better yet, exploring the other players on the board, foe or friend. Yet this installment barely touches on anything the Vassal Wars have led up to/set in motion and just meanders aimlessly towards nothing at all.
Third, at one point they become 007 protégés or something? And then poof! Within the next sentence another 5 years of adventures and growth have gone by with not a single one of those adventures being actually told or explored, just immediately back to hours of rift theory. The Tier 10 tournament gets mentioned once or twice as a mere afterthought and the more I write this the more it actually sinks in how absolutely empty and uneventful this book has been.
Again, I absolutely l-o-v-e the shit out of Path of Ascension and book 1-3 have been such an awesome, thrilling, moving and emotionally fulfilling ride. This installment however is less than a filler and woefully not up to par. I would 100% recommend everybody to just wait for the next one and just grab a synopsis for this from somewhere. Or just skip this one entirely.
