About this listen

She’ll never forget … I’ll never forgive. People always notice my daughter, Isobel. How could they not? Incredibly beautiful ... until she speaks. An unsettling, little-girl voice, exactly like a child’s, but from the mouth of a full-grown woman. Izzie might look grown-up, but inside she’s trapped. Caught in the day it happened … the day that broke her from within. Our family fell apart that day, and we never could pick up the pieces …©2018 Lucy Dawson (P)2018 Bolinda Publishing Genre Fiction Psychological Suspense Thriller & Suspense Fiction Exciting Scary

All through the book we're given hints of mysteries that we hope will be explained later, and this alongside a gentle flow of actual revelations, so there's never a flat bit.

The ending moves at a very fast pace and I found I had to concentrate so as not to miss something.

The story is about Tim and Clare who move from the London area to buy an old property in rural Shropshire, and also about Eve Parks and her daughter Isabel who are selling the property to live in a smaller place nearby.

Mainly the book revolves around the relationships between and among the people in the two families and their Shropshire neighbours. Quite a clever plot really. It does involve Voodoo, black magic and similar things, so maybe not one to listen to in the middle of the night on your own. Balancing the supernatural we have Clare a partly trained psychologist who is sure there must be a rational explanation for everything.

Good narration by Clare Corbett. Great range of voices.

Well paced and gripping thriller

Great story, surprisingly creepy. Well written page turner. Narration is fantastic, so many characters covered by one narrator. Wow!

Absolutely loved this book. So much so, I’ve purchased several others by the same author.
Great work with twists and turns in every chapter by a brilliant author indeed.
Highly recommend 10/10 from me!

This novel begins with a breath taking event that makes the main couple: Tim and Clare move from the comfort of living in Surrey to the wilds of Shropshire. I’m not sure I would be so forgiving as Clare. However, they have to overcome many more challenges as the novel proceeds. The characters were well drawn; Tim seemed a bit wet and I was surprised at how much I disliked Eve Parks. I guessed some of what happened at the end but there was a final twist that I didn’t see at all which is always a delight. All in all a good story and worth a listen.

An entertaining listen

I really enjoyed this story and really recommend it. The narrator does a really good job of the voices and definitely made me feel uneasy at times. I think like Claire, I would feel quite taken aback about Isobel. I did have an inkling of an idea as to how it might end, so I must be getting better at guessing twists. Very enjoyable listen.

Rightly Paced

This book started off well but soon deteriorated and was just confused and ridiculous. The narrator did a good job but I was pleased when I finished the book, I managed to doze off through parts of it.

Rubbish

narration is worth 10 stars.

The story was brilliantly written.

it's so good that I actually missed my bus stop and travelled and extra 20 minutes before I realised. no book has ever taken me out of real life like this one has.
I'm going to listen to it again right now.

do not listen to this on the bus
