I absolutely loved this. I had seen the film with Matt Damon previously, though to be honest I couldn't remember much about it. I seemed to remember it was something about growing potatoes on Mars. But the book was so much more than that, and I'm so pleased I decided to listen to it. I'm in no way a scientist and not even a fan of sci-fi, but it was gripping, fascinating and wonderfully well narrated.

I couldn't help but love this story, I am an engineer by trade and the degree to which the 'pick apart and put to work' mantra eminates from the endless amounts of nail biting problems that come the protagonists (and everyone elses) way is just astounding.
So too is the level of thought and attention to detail the authors have put into every chapter. It is not just a survival story but an anology on the best qualities required to face horribly difficult situations, a heavy dose of humour, grit and determination. There are many lessons to take with you from this book, as such I would recommend it to anyone.
It is about problems, how to solve them and the practical application of science in that effort. So to me for all that and more it is the most human tale I have ever come accross.
So thank you to Andy Weir and Wil Wheaton for putting themselves to work writting it. All the very best. You have a new and admiring fan in this reader.

Very long but entertaining story. not quite as snappy and easy to follow as the movie but that's to be expected. there's lots of details and subtle changes from the movie but it's not terrible. Wil Wheaton reads really well. he was easy to listen to.

People seem really polarized on the change in narrator for this audiobook but I loved Will's version! He didn't go over the top, but there was strong emotion in all the right places and he really captured that loveable and charismatic vibe of Mark Watney all the way through. It really gave the book more life for me.

The story itself is also amazing. Sci-fi realism with an enjoyable main character filled with both detailed explanation and loveable snark and humour.

I didn't know Will Wheaton narrated and when I heard his voice I thought maybe he was going to be not so good. He's very good at narrating
I loved the film and knew it was going to be a good story. Not disappointed in the slightest.
I recommend this audiibook.

The martian is such a great read. Having previously read the book i knew what i was in for, Its is just so good. The story and character building really make the book. Mark Watney becomes a friend that you have known for years, you are fully invested into the character. The science behind the story is great, to some it is a bit gimmicky but to the masses who are not so in touch with science it really makes the whole story believable. Andy Weir really has produced something special with the martian (and Project Hail Mary - If you liked the martian you will love PHM)

If you like Sci-Fi, the martian will be up your alley.

Will Wheaton does a really good job at telling the story and couldnt think of someone better to deliver the story. There were a few moments where the timing of the lines seemed ever so slightly off - but this is most likely a personal interpretation thing.
