A lone astronaut must save the earth from disaster in this incredible new science-based thriller from the number-one New York Times best-selling author of The Martian.
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish.
Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it.
All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.
His crewmates dead, his memories fuzzily returning, he realizes that an impossible task now confronts him. Alone on this tiny ship that's been cobbled together by every government and space agency on the planet and hurled into the depths of space, it's up to him to conquer an extinction-level threat to our species.
And thanks to an unexpected ally, he just might have a chance.
Part scientific mystery, part dazzling interstellar journey, Project Hail Mary is a tale of discovery, speculation, and survival to rival The Martian - while taking us to places it never dreamed of going.

If you like Dennis E Taylors BOBIVERSE you will love this
the writing is amusing and self critical. The main character is an everyman who ends up trying to save the world
Cant praise the book enough. I enjoyed this one more than The Martian
Fantastic book

Fan of Porter...
Another great novel from Andy Weir... the narration from Ray Porter will help you to suspend your belief to far flung solar systems... I had to check a couple of times to make sure I wasn’t listening to other books with similar themes also narrated by Porter, though this is great and in the same vein!
Enjoy!
Another weir great

The Martian was about one man's struggle to survive in a hostile environment, but in PHM the stakes are raised; its about the survival of the entire human race. Unlike the Martian, PHM is told entirely from one man's perspective, in the present and through flashbacks that are cleverly weaved into the main narrative. This singular pov helps us connect with Grace, like it did with Mark Watney. Although in hindsight I still prefer Watney and characterization isn't Weir's strongest point.
Like the Martian, PHM is full of well researched, real sounding science, the difference here being that Andy Weir has flexed his science-fiction muscles a little more. Despite a greater emphasis on the fiction part of Sci-fi, the solutions to the various problems our protagonist faces all sound plausible and scientific.
The switch from Mars to a outer space brings all sorts of new risks for our hero, who doesn't even know his name, or where he is to begin with. That's the first bit of problem solving we get and it's also where the book is at its funniest.
It just keeps getting better and I don't want to spoil the plot, suffice to say it's delightful and unexpected. This is a more creative book than the Martian in some ways and it was a treat to listen to. The narrator brings extra personality and feeling to the characters and there's even audio effects to make the experience that little bit more immersive. It's all immensely satisfying, with even our guy's insistence on explaining all the sciencey stuff making sense in the context of the story.
Sometimes PHM gets a little too heavy on the technical details, and I was able to predict a couple of things which lessened the emotional impact a tad. A very minor nitpick is the complete absence of British scientists. It appears they don't exist in Weir World, but that's fine. PHM still remains a warm, humorous, hopeful and emotionally engaging thrill ride til the end. I can't wait for the film that'll never happen now. Thanks Covid.
