not as good as the first one and way too much sex
Story is a little weak, nothing happens really just endless talk of sex, sexual references, descending into some really dirty low stuff. Not what I am looking for in a sci-fi book. There websites for that sort of stuff, books are for story telling, plots, characters etc The first book was interesting, the second one is a drift into nothingness.

Not a great sequel, sex-obsessed and cringeworthy in places
I enjoyed the first book in this series as it had almost a childlike innocence. This sequel carries on where the previous story set off, with all the same characters, but seems to have lost that charm.
It is hard to recall any time in this book where any male and female characters are alone together and don’t have sex.
The violence seems to have changed from the first book too, with pretty much every major character fighting and killing others.
The plot turned out better than I had thought it would - I was on the verge of giving up on this book half way - and I enjoyed the ending apart from some needless murders.
If you were unsure whether you like the Worldship Humility, I’d say don’t bother with this one. If you really liked that first book (as I did) then give this one a go. Audible will give you your money/credit back if you decide you don’t like it and want to return it.

Massive letdown. Avoid.
Should have paid attention to other reviews. Liked first book, but this one was just a letdown.
Barely any plot. All the author wanted to do is describe sex scenes. All. The. Time. Boringly. Nothing sci-fi. Shame, as the first book had promise.

Worth the Wait
So looked forward to the next book in the Code Series, and I was not disappointed, it has been another high spirited adventure, or should I say romp. With copious amounts of hilarious humour, genuine humour which fends off the 'Fifty Shades of Detective Zhang along with the with the ridiculous amount of sexual encounters from nearly half the characters exhibiting uncontrollable desires. Thankfully, the book gets back on track and the mix of violence and anticipation kept the book flowing. This book has delved deeper into other characters in the first book other than Sam and Yasmin, the main protagonist in the first book. developing an engaging story as per The Worldship Humility.
And yet again Colin Morgan delivers superbly! His narration is like no other, with his ability to jump from character to character convincingly and flawlessly, delivering each scene with measured amounts of humour and intensity. Colin is a treasure to hear. Anticipating the next installment of the series and Colin Morgan's performance keenly

Thin all over.
Struggled with this and have enjoyed others by the same author. Character motivations are so thin throughout it became annoying. Caricatures and a tell not show style makes this a no for me.

Meandering
*No spoilers*
It picks up right where they left off, but quickly loses the momentum from the previous book and everything gets kind of janky.
Everything slows down and the story gets dragged out. The main plot does not move on that much regarding the code, and this book is centered more around the conflict between the captain and vice-captain of the Humility, and the Elfor situation.
Some of my grievances:
Characters gets tangled up in side story stuff that seems to not serve much of a purpose other than keeping the characters around, and padding the story. Especially Detective Zhang Woo. Don't get me wrong, I like the character..but he does not really do much connected to the main plot here. He gets pulled into this other thing that takes a lot of time away from the main story.
I also need to express my annoyance of how's Sam's mindset changes at one point with little to no push from a clearly hostile source. Seemed like a very forced way to create conflict and turmoil in a way that is unearned.
Lastly it is silly how the main cast of characters keeps ending up in the same place at the same time by happenstance. Feels clunky.
So what's good? Well, you get to see a bit more of the fleet, and how things work there in contrast with the Humility.
IF you are a massive Woo fan you get way more of him, and his story.
The voice acting is still top notch, and you get a lot of great character moments.
Towards the end I was just looking forward to being finished with it so I could find something more exciting to read. It just keeps meandering towards an end you see coming. I might read the next book, but boy am I sceptical.

Incredible!!
What an amazing listen!
The first book in this series is fantastic and I was afraid a second one wouldn’t be as good, I needn’t have worried! It’s outstanding!
The story rockets along, it’s one of those stories you just can’t put down. Mr Haywood really has excelled himself❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
As for the narrator, Wow!!! What a virtuoso performance. It’s very hard to believe this is just one mans work! The many voices he uses totally fit the characters. Exceptional work Mr Morgan❤️❤️❤️❤️

Exciting story and fabulously performed.
I loved listening to this book, great humour and super characters. I have listened to over 250 stories and Colin Morgan is the one of the best story tellers out there!

Omfg Sam got on my last nerve!!
It was sooooooooooo boring when Sam started to doubt Yasmin it went on and on omg I had to keep fast forwarding Sam bits I couldn’t stand the self pity. I waited so excitedly for this book and just hope the last one will be better. This book shows that R R Haywood is under pressure to get this trilogy out quickly’ slow down Mr Haywood don’t spoil something so special by rushing. Your fans will wait!!

Spellbinding
I loved the first book in this series, but I enjoyed this one even more! The story continues exactly where the first book ended, but the adventure gets more and more exciting and convoluted.
Full disclosure - definitely for a mature audience - both in content & language.
I have no idea what the total character count is - but it is huge! Many of the characters from book one reappear, and there is a host of new ones introduced. Many times the story has us witnessing conversations between multiple people, and as a listener, you actually believe they are all separate individuals! It blows my mind that these unique voices, male and female, are all done by the same man!
RR Haywood's writing style is so engaging, but for me what makes this book outstanding is Colin Morgan's voice work. The book is a fabulous collaboration between a skilled author's imaginative storytelling, and a supremely talented narrator. Overall, a credit very well spent!

The Good, The Bad, and Overall...
The Good: The story continues exactly where it left off in the first book. Narrator is great as always. More character development this time around.
The Bad: Geesh, where do I start? Firstly, as others have stated this book is in dire need of editing. Lots of repetition that comes across as something quickly slapped together and sent off to press. Before I tear into this book allow me to say that I absolutely loved the first one. Sure, it had its quirks too but it was fun. OK, onward and downward... I think R. R. Haywood forgot to track his timeline. This plays out as though weeks have gone by from the first book, but if you map it out, it has only been a few days. A week at the most. There are a lot of contradictions in the characters that conflict with what was said/done a day or so before. This is where I think Haywood lost tract of time, or perhaps he thought we wouldn't notice, or as stated earlier he just wanted to get the book out quickly.
I almost stopped listening at chapter 44. I actually had to take a day off and talk to a co-worker who also uses audible. Chapter 44 has a major non-sequitur moment which derailed the whole story. There are many plot devices that authors use to move stories forward, but this was a train taking a 90* turn. If Sam would have just turned off his wristband thing, or ignored it, or just remember 2 days before when Yasmine was holding his junk in the hotel room... there would not have been a derailment. Once again I think it is important to refer to the real timeline within the story. Book 1 ended 3 days before this moment. It is sad when you become invested in the characters and the writer decides to derail a story to create a moment. Oh, and the showdown with Dimitri was extremely anti-climatic.
The sex stuff didn't bother me. Somehow, all the key players end up at one of the 2 showdowns. No real reasoning about it as to how they knew Yasmine was going to be on that ship, and somehow she is and very convenient to the author, she just so happens to come out of a storage area behind a concert where everyone is readily available to rumble. Now onto Sam, he is very likeable and his hacking skills are a bit unreal this time around. Sure he can easily bypass high security system at a drop of a hat, and he can outsmart (out kung fu) another hacker, unless, of course, this one time he can't because the plot device wont allow it. It was painful to finish.
Overall: Once again, I loved the first book. I was eagerly awaiting this book and was surprise to see it available. I follow Haywood on Amazon and did not receive a notification about this new book. If you loved the first book as much as I do... I highly suggest that you do not listen to this. Make up your own ending from book one and just let this one go. But, if you absolutely need to torment yourself to see for yourself... then wait for this to be on sale for $5, or a 2 books for 1 credit deal. I promise you that you will not have to wait long. Sadly, for me... I am done with this series...

Good story, bad soft core erotica in space
I am not a prude, but the random, non story moving, detailed sex scenes got to be annoying rather than erotic. They felt like filler fluff thrown in, but overly so. I liked the first novel, but I felt like this one kept getting interrupted so we could hear drawn out sex scene details from a sex addicted character. Rather than seeming like a part of the story, it seemed like a side step from the development of the story or an unwanted distraction from the story. Instead of having the effect of showing the reader just how deep the character was lost in his addiction, it really just seemed gratuitous. It wasn’t obscene or vulgar, it just was actually boring and annoying in the story. I wish I could say it got better, but it seemed to get worse. I gave up a few hours in and returned the book.

GET AN EDITOR PLEASE
I loved the first book and generally love Haywood's writing. It seems like in this one he sat down and wrote for a year and just published it without any editing. It's WAY too long with many silly and continually repetitive scenes. Still the writing and the characters are great. Hoping he writes a third one and has a better editor.

Oh boy, where to start...
One of the tag lines of this looonng, if not epic effort is 'It should be over, but it isn't.' In retrospect, the author was giving us fair warning.
If the first few chapters dragged on like the last few., this review wouldn't be needed, I would have returned it faster than any chapter runs. Just like the line from one of the Godfather sequals "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!". Their are some good parts here., just not enough to make it worth the price of admittance, which is listening to the whole seemingly unending thing.
In all fairness Mr Haywwod created some interesting characters. The protagonists have some depth and backstories. The milieu is reasonable and more than enough to keep the listener involved. The political environment is entirely plauseable. That what sucks you in. But, there are entire chapters that go on unending tangents that are baffling in their content an length. With a climactic scene thats length is only matched by its confusing dialog and narrative.
Ultimately, the only explanation I can think of for making what is basically a solid, if not mind bendingly original work, into an exercise of will power for the listener, is a simple clerical error. I believe, somehow, the complete, unedited draft of the script was sent by mistake. If this effort was properly edited it would have made for enjoyable 8 or 9 hour distraction. As it is, it's 19 hours of 'buckle up buttercup' your in for a long ride!

How did this happen?
How did this book make it into the public sphere? It’s like it missed the editing process. Listening to this book makes me angry- the first was so good and this one is terrible. I keep fast forwarding during the author’s masturbatory digressions to see if we can get along with the plot... grrrrr

Love R. R. Haywood - but gave up on this one.
Read the first book and it was good enough to try the second (years later). Just drags. Great characters as always and dialouge etc because R. R. Haywood is great but just feels repetitive and longer than it needs to be in many ways. I have zero issue with adult theme stuff but worth mentioning...you wont be listening to this with the windows down in your car or near other people. Tons of sexual content (as R. R. Haywood often has, but more than usual).
Extracted by R. R. Haywood is one of my favorites, it is great.
A Town called discovery is pretty genius and the same style and great fin characters as Extracted with a brilliant story setup and development. Not perfect but such a bold idea and book style.
This series was decent, but this one less so.

Best book of 2020!
The first book was great, but this book is exponentially that much greater. By far the best development of any of the 100 audible books I’ve listened to in 2020. Funny AF too! The character Sun might be my new favorite person. I truly hope there will be a 3rd! Highly recommend getting if you are on the fence about it. You can thank me later. Cheers.

Consistent 2nd book compared with the 1st
Very enjoyable story, plot, characters and advancement of the story. There was some messy annoying bits that were kina jus like 🙄 same with the goofy dialog this author tends to lean on, i guess its style of humor which i wont dog on too much since everyone has their own tastes but it certainly isnt for me just because of how cringey it is and kina like ugggghhh whyy would anyone SAAY THAT!! Which is why i couldnt give it a perfect rating but i did enjoy this book and the previous one and would recommend anyone reading this review to give it a shot cause it is very entertaining and gets deeper into the guts on the story than the first did naturally since all the characters and plot is developed enough to be able to advance things toward the climax and i feel the next one can only get better and might even win over a full 5 star. Heres hoping🤞

What a waste of a good narrator
Don't do it. Don't waste your time or money.
Believe the other reviewers who tell you that this story needed an editor or a trash bin. There is no breadth or depth of character development, no engaging action, no purpose whatsoever - not even entertainment. It is so flat as a story that it reminded me of "See Jane run."
If you want to hear a narrator voice the word f*** with so many different character voices that you lose count, this is your book.
If you want to read about a sex addict and his behavior that evokes no sympathy or even eroticism but - by the 10th episode or more - only a reaction of "meh, fast forward," then this is your book.
I am not close-minded and language (as part of character development) does not offend me nor am I offended by sexuality in a story. But in this book, those two things are mind-numbingly gratuitous.
The only good thing about this book and the only thing that kept me listening as long as I did, is the narrator, Colin Morgan, and his ability to voice so many characters well - even the female characters. In fact, he's the reason I risked the purchase. I like Dick Hill, Edoardo Ballerini, Scott Brick, etc. and move easily into a story with a good narrator. However, even Morgan's talent can't save this mess.
I had to give 1 star for overall and story, but if I could have submitted the review without a star for those, I would have. As soon as I submit this review, I'm returning the book. I couldn't force myself to finish it.
