Summary

A heart-pounding standalone zombie-horror from best seller RR Haywood

Henrietta Swallow may be a stunning model, but she has ambitions to be a film director. At a film premiere she tries engaging a producer about a new project...before everything goes terribly wrong.

Soon Swallow finds herself on the run amidst the full horror of the Undead. Along with a small band of survivors, and one miserable producer, Swallow must do everything just to stay alive on the blood-soaked streets.

As the Undead get more numerous, can she run, beat and hack her way out of trouble?

Very disappointed

Having enjoyed the series so far this stand alone story is a big letdown.

The characters are bizarrely one dimensional with reparative 'catch phrases'. Other than the lead character they are morons seemingly incapable of realising any danger, even whilst being attacked!
There are glimmers of the humour which made the series so enjoyable but mostly the characters are annoying or forgettable with very little actual development so it's difficult to become invested.
What you are left with is a groin smashingly frustrating experience which can't end quick enough.

On a plus the narration is very good.

Thoroughly enjoyable, great character dev

Prompted to read this by reading The Undead series, awesome side story to that. Great character development, I hope the author comes back to write more of these.
Brilliant to see a kick ass female character, and a fresh perspective on the zombie genre.

Wasted Time

This writer is very lazy. Too much boring internal dialogue, too much repetition . I really thought that I would like this, but it is amateurish through and through.

Love Haywood, but this is painful

The strength of Haywood’s writing is in the characters. Unfortunately these characters are just not likeable. I don’t care what happens to them and I don’t think I’ll be able to get through it. It’s too bad. I was excited to have something to hold me over while I wait for the next installment of Undead to come out.

Haywood, please don’t forget your strengths. Your characters are your secret weapon!

Like a teenage girl who forgot to take her Adderal

I couldn't make it more than an hour into this without giving up. It's what I would think a teenage girl with dreams of stardom would think hampens in a zombie apocalypse, except while writing it she forgot to take her ADHD meds. Performance is good but I couldn't get past the story and constantly being reminded how much better Henrietta is than the rest of us.

Love it perfect addition to the series

I love this book listened to it three times already and it always leaves me wanting more. I want a sequel. I want to see where the story goes. RR Haywood has such a natural writing talent. He is a breath of fresh air to the genre!! This is another must read by RR Haywood he doesn't know how to disappoint. I look forward to anything he does next.

Great zombie book - great author

I am hooked on The Undead series by RR Haywood. Love his style and his characters. This book is related to the Undead Series, but can be read as a stand alone book also. In Blood at the Premier there is a strong female lead named Henrietta Swallow who is in great physical condition and is a fierce fighter. She is a beautiful television actress and is at a movie Premier when the zombies attack. She leads a small group of people through the dangers and is the only strong fighter among all of them, including the men. They face many dangerous and life threatening situations. One of her group, a producer is a major jerk and coward but he belittle Henrietta constantly. I wanted him to get zapped, bitten, shot, or anything else to shut him up. Another person in the group is lovable Benjie, the male lead of a band called Benjie and the Boys. Benjie is my favorite male character. He is so sweet and innocent. They pick up Brian, a van driver who crashes his van running from the zombies. Then they pick up a wealthy spoiled teenage girl named Rose. In downtown London Henrietta runs into characters from the Undead series. You will immediately recognize them if you have read or listened to The Undead. If you haven't been exposed to The Undead, I highly recommend that you start with book one and go forward. Howie, Dave and the gang are fantastic characters and Haywood is an extremely talented storyteller. His dialog is witty and fast paced in that series as well as in Blood at the Premier. Be prepared however to lose some characters, even ones that you like.

I hope Haywood writes more about Henrietta in future books. The Haywood Zombie world is my favorite and I love to dwell there with the likable characters, safe behind my ear buds. The narrator was very good. She had good voices for the characters and kept the tension high with the tone of her voice. If Haywood does continue with the Henrietta stories, I hope he keeps Rachael Hine as the narrator.

R R Haywood Delivers Again!

Good story overall. A bit too much time & detail spent on the turd in the sink but, Haywood does that sometimes. Overall a good Undead story.
