Summary

It may not be an easy journey, but it’s definitely worth the fight—here’s how to help your child with autism survive and thrive in life while taking care of your mental health.

Are you stressed and overwhelmed by the struggles that come with raising a child with autism?

Are you worried about their future, wondering if they can ever become successful?

Has the thought of having a typical kid ever passed your mind because you’re so tired of handling their behavior?

Don’t feel guilty: your feelings are valid. Thousands of parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Asperger’s have the same sentiments.

In fact, raising a neurotypical child is also tough and a struggle every day. Caring for a kid with autism is a bigger challenge, and it can become worse if you don't get the right support and you're not able to provide for all your child's needs.

However, there’s also a silver lining: you get to raise the most honest people in the world. And just like any other kid, children with autism also show great potential—you just have to help them discover and nurture their talents so they can set and achieve their goals.

But before you begin, you need to understand why they behave the way they do.

Fortunately, this guide offers a simple framework with insights and strategies for you to follow and help your child thrive in life. Here’s just a fraction of what you will discover inside:

  • The 5-pillar approach to raising a child with special needs
  • The largely unknown reason behind the aggressive behavior in autism, and what you can do to prevent it
  • How to tell people about your child’s diagnosis–find out how to set boundaries to protect your kid
  • Five practical ways to identify talent in a child with autism–and what you can do to help them nurture it
  • Verbal, non-verbal, and visual strategies to overcome communication barriers when interacting with an ASD child
  • How to deal with their obsessive and repetitive behavior without being hard on them

PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

A lifeline of practical strategies

This audiobook offers a lifeline of practical strategies and heartfelt advice for navigating the journey with a child diagnosed with autism. The information felt like a guiding light, addressing not just the clinical aspects but also the emotional landscape of fostering a nurturing environment for my child. It debunked common myths and provided evidence-based interventions, but what stood out most was the emphasis on empathy and understanding our children's boundaries—a reminder of the profound impact of our support and respect on their well-being. This audiobook felt like a conversation with a wise friend, assuring me that my child's diagnosis is a part of our journey, not a boundary to their potential. As a parent, it empowered me to advocate for my child's needs with confidence and love, making it an invaluable companion in our family's journey towards understanding and acceptance.

Written with compassion

I am a mother with two ADHD kids and one who displays signs of autism so I know that raising a child who is neurodivergent can be arduous and emotionally taxing filled with unique challenges and uncertainties about their future. Many overwhelming stress and feelings of exhaustion are entirely valid, and thousands of parents in similar circumstances share these sentiments. The book immediately acknowledges the validity of parent struggles and empathizes with the enormity of the task at hand. It dismantles any sense of guilt parents may feel, reminding them that even raising a neurotypical child presents daily challenges.

As the book empowers parents with valuable insights and strategies, it shares inspiring real-life stories of famous individuals with autism who achieved their goals, serving as a testament to the potential within every child. By embracing the knowledge and wisdom in this guide, parents will be equipped to guide their children with autism through the challenging terrain of life, enabling them to excel and succeed in all their endeavors.

A great guide

What stood out the most for me was how the author assures parents that their kid's diagnosis is no one else's business, and they choose who to share it with. I loved the tips on how to share the diagnosis with others, and how the author assures parents that respecting the kid's boundaries is fundamental to their wellbeing. If your kid doesn't like being touched, then don't force them to greet your friend or anyone else for that matter. This was such a well constructed guide, and I loved the kind and empathetic approach the author took.

This book provides the necessary information, while leaving room for the parent to make decisions that keeps their kid protected, safe, and understood. Loved it!

Great book to help families and outsiders.

Good book to get acquainted with the behaviors of Autistic and children with Asbergers. I know a few children with this condition and this book help me have a better understanding of what they are going through. I like the chapter on Handling Their Obsessive and Repetitive Behavior the best as this is the area where people outside of the family mostly notice.

Understanding

This book was really enlightening in understanding the behavior of children with Autism and Asperger's. I have a neighbor that has a child and now I have a more complete understanding of not only his child, but what they go through as well. This is great in helping you keep an eye on your own children’s difficulties as well. Definitely worth listening to!

A must-have book

This book takes a 5-pillar approach to raising a child with special needs, which I found to be a very practical and effective approach. One of the things that I found particularly enlightening was the discussion of the largely unknown reason behind the aggressive behavior in autism, and what you can do to prevent it. It was great to get some concrete guidance on how to handle this issue in a positive and proactive way.
Another important topic that the book covers is how to tell people about your child's diagnosis, and how to set boundaries to protect your kid. This can be a difficult and emotional topic to navigate, so I appreciated the clear and practical advice that the book provides.
Overall, I highly recommend this book to any parent who is raising a child with autism or Asperger's. It is an invaluable resource that provides practical guidance, inspiration, and support for parents who are navigating the complex and challenging world of special needs parenting.
