Summary

Shifters and switches are the perfect match; she hunts vampires, he keeps her from destroying entire populations in a fit of magical rage. These love connections, once common, have died out in modern times. A disaster for humanity.

Until....

The first switch seen in 100 years flees a room full of shifters, leaving chaos in her wake.

Jameson Montreat is a lonely wolf shifter who had one job that was essential to the protection of the human species. A job he was unable to do. Now, with more vampires throwing their hat into the political ring every day, he can't stop it. He can't kill vampires, none of the shifters can. Only a switch can kill a vampire, and they died out 100 years ago. But then an impossibly captivating switch walks right into the anti-vampire meeting, turning every shifter head in the place. She is not meant for him, as much as he might need her to be.

Coralie Hamilton is a normal woman, living a normal life, waiting for something big. What that something is, she has no idea, but when some base part of her brain causes her to go temporarily insane and try to stab a politician in the throat with a fountain pen, her future suddenly becomes crystal clear. She's a natural born killer, and the only thing that can calm her killing instincts in the moment is the love of a shifter male who is strong enough to handle her.

Yesterday, she didn't believe in shifters. Today, she's got to choose the one who will keep her sane.

Too complicated to be interesting

Any additional comments?

This book wasn’t for me. I couldn’t figure out if it was supposed to be a romance or an urban fantasy. Either way, it didn’t hold my interest and I found I couldn’t really care about any of the characters. Won’t be listening to any more in the series.

Awesome!

I’m hooked! I hope the rest of the series is as good as this book. The narration was excellent.

I love this book!

The narrator was excellent he really got into the story and made the sex scenes very steamy it made my toes curl and relistened to it again! Did I like it? Oh yeah so good I listened from the beginning to end all in one day. BRAVO!

Surprising

The gunboats about Audible Escape is I can try different authors and narrators.
To start with the latter, Will M. Watt is an amazing narrator and I found his voice and style very suited for the genre.

I enjoyed the story too, although the ending was a bit abrupt.

It doesn't follow the book?

I'm listening and trying to follow along in the book, but then the audio just goes off by its self and I get completely lost.

Starting from scratch.

When I started this book, I was very disappointed to find it did not pick up where the prequel left off, but what appears to be decades later. I was super interested to know what happens next with Anna and her sister switches and the shifter males. While this book explains what happened to all of the switches, it doesn't explain what happened specifically what happened to the characters from Growler's Gift. Where did they fit into The Reckoning? Did they ever hear from Antoni again (and, if so, was she somehow connected to the vampires, thus explaining the black in her pink magic)? Thus, this book was an adjustment after just having read Growler's Gift.

In this book, everything that existed in Growler's Gift is purely legend to a lot of shifters. Most have no idea what a switch is. They've all been gone for a very long time, after all. Now the steward is awake and it is time to revive the movement to eradicate the vampires.

Jameson is the keeper of the steward. The previous keeper, his uncle, died when he was 11, before his training as the keeper could begin. Over the last century, Jameson has searched for the Steward to no avail. All he has is an ancient book that he cannot read and cannot be damaged. After having a more-or-less vision, he realizes it's time to share what he knows with his fellow shifters, even if they think he's crazy. Much to his surprise, his search for the steward is over as this steward is already being held in lock-up at a nearby police station. After retrieving the steward (whose purpose nobody ever seems to figure out), the search for switches begins.

Coralie is the first switch in over a century and she has no idea what she is or that anything but humans even exist. In her mind, she's just had a mental break of some sort which led her to attempt to kill a man she doesn't know. Once she's been found, Jameson explains at least some of the situation to her. She believes him deep down, but convinces herself she doesn't actually believe him and runs.

Over the course of the story, Coralie, Jameson, and all of the other shifters, begin to navigate this new cause they've suddenly been called to. Now they need to find 14 more...

I loved Switching it up!!

Lisa Ladew and Grace Quillen and absolutely brilliant together!! This story takes you to so many new and exciting places. I expect this to be one of my top favorite paranormal series with several books to come! At least that’s what I’m hoping for!
It’s true the story is not finished but there was an HEA and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Will Watt is a brilliant narrator and does an outstanding performance in this story. I hope he has agreed to do the whole series. Would definitely recommend to anyone who loves paranormal romance.

Disappointed

The story was okay. I am not a fan. There is so many unanswered questions and then there was the strange cliffhanger. I regret having spent money on this.
