Summary
When old secrets catch fire, everything will burn.
In a mortal world colonized by the gods and ruled over by their cruel offspring, the Descended, Diem Bellator yearns to escape the insular life of her poor village.
Her mother's sudden disappearance—and the discovery of a dangerous secret about her past—offer Diem an unexpected opportunity to enter the dark world of Descended royalty and unlock the web of mysteries her mother left behind.
With the dying king's handsome, mysterious heir watching her every move and a ruthless mortal alliance recruiting her to join the growing civil war, Diem will have to navigate the unwritten rules of love, power, and politics in order to save her family—and all of mortal kind.
Spark of the Everflame is the first book in The Kindred's Curse Saga, a four-book epic fantasy romance series that follows our feisty, bad*ss heroine Diem Bellator in her fight against injustice and oppression, her struggle to survive in a royal palace full of betrayal and intrigue, and her journey of self-discovery and finding true love. This slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers series is perfect for fans of unique magic systems, dragons and other mythical creatures, angst and romantic tension, and hilarious banter.

I really enjoyed this and can't wait for the next book!
I loved D as the main character, so accepting of people and so brave.

A begging to a slow romance
Narrator was very good at showing the intensity of the moment. This is a slow burn.

Spark of the Everflame

Diem Ballator is a healer in her realm. She was taught by her Mum, who was extremely well thought of. Diem is unnaturally gifted. Like the royals or the descended, she has coloured eyes, not plain chocolate brown like all other mortals. She apparently had an illness that drained the colour from her hair and eyes when she was younger.🤔
Prince Luther is expected to inherit his uncles crown and power when his uncle passes. He feels drawn to the healer who saved his sister Lily but doesn't know why, as she's mortal.😏 He weilds light and shadows. He can not stand the guards hurting Diem! Touch her and ☠️💥
I'm obsessed with this story so far. It's pulling me in brilliantly.👏 The audiobook is very well narrated.⭐️

Great performance and story building, just seemed a bit slow and not much happened
I had preordered this as an audiobook as saw a recommendation. Really enjoyed the performance, no issues, however story seemed to do not much for a while. I would say world building but really it was just a lot of background for limited action, contemplated not finishing as was getting bored / distracted but hung on to the end. Not in a rush to continue with the series altho (hopefully!) the next book would have less scene setting and more progress?!

Kinda annoying?
I don't really know why, but the main character is incredibly annoying to me? like, (Mild spoilers ahead, read on on your own discretion) I usually really enjoy when main characters have angry/spiteful personalities, but her anger is almost never directed at anything that is actually anger-inducing (at least not considering her circumstances/persived consequences of her anger)???
I feel like she could easily decide to stab someone for any slight rudeness... which is like, what the hell?
Maybe the point is that her magic makes her angry before she learns of it, or learn to control it, but I'd love for her to figure it out sooner, cause so far she's low key insufferable 90% of the time..

A bit slow paced
A bit slow-paced, but a good book. Hope for a bit more excitement in the next books.
