This audiobook is great! It gives many strategies to help young children prepare to make the transition from living somewhat isolated (mostly around parents/family) to interacting socially with many other children their age in preschool/kindergarten. A recurring theme is for the parent to create a hand-drawn storybook (even if it's crude stick figures) with captions showing a child (either their own or a generic child) in day-to-day school activities, and to read the book with the child, showing more nuanced emotions and how to accept and cope with them as they come up. It's surprising how many different situations this can be used for, whether it's getting your kid excited for everything they'll do/everyone they'll meet on the first day of school, teaching them the polite way to conversate with others without interrupting, or even retroactively showing them a more healthy/constructive way to deal with negative emotions after they've had a blowup or meltdown at school. There's lots of other techniques too, ranging from activities to conversations to thought exercises to parental mindsets. The mindfulness exercises were particularly ingenious in their simplicity, from the quiet walk/loud run to the glitter jar representing settling thoughts. As a future parent who's planning on popping out a bunch of offspring in the next 5-10 years, I know I'll be coming back to this book time and time again to give my kids the tools they need to succeed socially and take everything in stride, rolling with the punches and enjoying the good times to the fullest <3
