Summary

"It was during my eighth or ninth plant medicine journey that I was finally getting a real sense of freedom. I was feeling so elated that I told the moon I had a special request. I explained that this life had been so full of pain for me that I didn't think I could do it all again. So I asked her if in my next life she could make sure that I found the plant medicine as soon as possible. Her reply floored me. She typed, 'Gerry, that's a request about next time, but it's the same one you used last time.'"

Plant medicine? The moon typing? It probably seems incomprehensible. Gerard Armond Powell was a rags-to-riches success story - a member of the one percent - but also an extremely unhappy person with multiple addictions. On a fast track to destroying every relationship that ever mattered to him and considering suicide, he was looking for a miracle, a way out. He found it in the form of plant medicine and a shaman who introduced him to the truth of his life, and laid the groundwork for a psycho-spiritual journey that would lead him to reconnect with his soul, heal his addictions, and, finally, achieve a lasting sense of peace and happiness. This experience changed Powell, and convinced him to share the universal truths he learned with as many people as he could, which he does at the acclaimed Rythmia Life Advancement Center in Costa Rica, and now with listeners in Sh*t the Moon Said.

This mesmerizing story gives listeners a blueprint to chart their own course to happiness. The first step is to learn who they really are and the possibilities of what they can still become. Second, they have to achieve a reconnection with their souls. And third, they must heal their hearts. Sh*t the Moon Said provides us with an irreverent way of highlighting our shared unconscious wisdom and its life-changing potential. Powell's candid tale and unlikely journey will help inspire listeners to know themselves better.

The moon said this book is sh*t

Should have been titled “The moon said this book is sh*t” as this book really is terrible.

Very little content, just a brief account of an Aya ceremony in Costa Rica, followed by self-promotion of the author’s retreat in Costa Rica. Narration was not good either.
Would not recommend.

His psychedelic journey is only part worth hearing

I enjoyed his account of his guided ayahuasca experience. It was really interesting, and the stories he told about his life leading up to that were necessary for the punchline of his trip to carry it's full weight. It is worth hearing that part and the book is not too long. The performance was well read, the accent was hard for me at first but it was a good performance I thought.

The negative side in my opinion was that the author is hard to relate to in general. Like if some jerk jock you knew in high school who was too cool and got all the girls, then dropped out and became a millionaire on selling lip gloss or something, and felt like he was the greatest person because of all that. But the story is of his healing of that. About one whole chapter was overtly an advertisement for his shaman healing camp thing that he created after being healed of those personality issues.

Exactly what I needed to find

Authentic, raw, shamelessly flawed, inspiring, enlightening, a mind blowing journey, a true gift to humanity. Thank you Gerry.

I just listened to a pitch

Just a sales talk, no real info or value in there. A lot of very uninformed stories and only focussed on filling his retreat.

Odd narration choices

The content of this book was quite interesting, but I was distracted throughout at the odd choice of narrator. In order to suspend belief that the author is speaking, it's important to choose the right narrator, and this narration was so off-the-mark from what Gerry Powell sounds like I couldn't get past it. Compounding this was the choice of having a different narrator play the character of the moon towards the end – the director/producer added an echo effect to the already over-the-top quality of the voice to make it sound more "mystical".

Don’t like the title but lots of sacred wisdom

I cried the entire time listening to this. We all have it rather difficult, thankful to have found the medicine.
