About this listen

From the number one international best-selling author of Holy Island and Dark Skies.

Ryan's most explosive case yet...

It's been five months since a killer walked free, and DCI Ryan is preparing to leave Newcastle to hunt him down - this time for good.

But Ryan's plans are scuppered when events take a dramatic turn and he is forced to stay and face his past one last time or watch a friend suffer the consequences.

Amid the chaos, another killer is preparing to strike. When the Tyne Bridge explodes, Ryan's team are faced with a frantic race to uncover a deadly foe who won't stop until every bridge is burned, along with everybody on it....

Murder and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunit set amidst the spectacular Northumbrian landscape.

L J Ross has done it again. I have enjoyed all the previous DCI Ryan books and couldn't wait to read this one.

The story goes back to Ryan's past toxic relationship with DCI Jennifer Lucas, who now has her claws into Jack Lowerson. That story runs alongside one that has someone calling themselves the Alchemist who is threatening to blow up Newcastle's bridges.

The story is fast paced and I thoroughly enjoyed it, though it is somewhat shorter than the other books. Nevertheless I can't wait for the next instalment.

Jonathan Keeble's narration was, as always, brilliant.

A bit too short!

I was delighted to find that this book moved us on from what I had found a particularly irritating storyline (I won't say more and spoil one of the main threads of the story). This series is a little gung ho and I too am now finding Ryan's love interest verging on the Mills & Boone - but having said that I have grown fond of the central characters and the tales romp along at a decent pace. I enjoyed this just as much as the previous books in the series and I'll be signing up for No. 9.

Another good one in the series
