About this listen

Introducing the new, unabridged version of The Infirmary by LJ Ross, the author of the international number one best-selling series, the DCI Ryan Mysteries.

There's a serial killer targeting the streets of Newcastle, seemingly picking his victims at random but subjecting them all to the same torturous end. When the chief inspector on the case goes missing, it falls on DCI Ryan to track down the man who is brutally murdering women and goading the police to 'catch me if you can'.

As everyone becomes a suspect, Ryan and his team get drawn further and further into the case, but for Ryan the nightmare gets closer to home than he could ever have imagined.

You can also listen to the multicast original drama starring Tom Bateman, Hermione Norris and Kevin Whately here. ©2019 LJ Ross (P)2019 Audible, Ltd

The writing and performance in this book were as good as ever but having listened to the previous books in the series in order I found myself listening with a dread of getting to the part where his sister died. I’m not a person who enjoys knowing the ending before the book has even started.

I found the prequel uncomfortable to listen to

Having read the book last year it seemed natural to suggest that this pre-sequal be read first but now think I have listened to the audiobook and followed the story again I would place it before High Force when The Hacker returns. The Infirmary is a great read but I will always think of Holy Island as the first book in the series and when I got hooked.

A chilling pre-sequal to Holy Island

Wonderful characters and an engaging writing style, with emotionally sensitive narration. A plot that actually surprised me. I didn't want to get to the end.

Most enjoyable crime fiction for ages

A serial killer in Newcastle. Who are they targeting & why?

I love to listen to these stories & hear about the development of the characters. They aren’t greatly challenging, but sometimes that is just what is needed!

The Circus!

This is an excellent thriller, very well narrated. Lots of twists and turns that keep you focused to the very last page.

Great Suspense
