Summary

Winter, 1361: Edward III has finally agreed a treaty with the captive French King, John II. In return for his freedom, John has ceded vast tracts of territory to the English. But the mercenary bands and belligerent lords will not give up their hard-won spoils to honour a defeated king's promises.

As he battles to enforce Edward's claim, Thomas Blackstone, once again, will face the might of the French army on the field. But this time there will be no English army at his back.

Yet another Glorious Gilman story

Master of War takes us once more alongside one of the greatest fighting men to ever grace paper. Thomas Blackstone is as fearsome as he is loyal and his men, all amazing characters too, are always ready to fight next to him.
David Gilman has the rare ability of being able to tell the story at a fast pace, while describing characters in detail, endearing you to Blackstone and his band of brothers... and he always educates the reader.
The Master of War series is a true historical fiction classic, and I have loved every single page .
So if you are looking for great books full of action and history, I would recommend any and all of Gilman's books.

This amazing series continues

Once again the story of Blackstone does not fail to impress.

Superb story telling by Gilman, with rich colourful characters that take you on a journey with Blackstone cleverly and brilliantly narrated by Mace.

Highly recommend this book along with all the others in the series- can’t wait for the next one.

Histirical novel at its best

The book précis explains what the book is all about and it really only remains to say that it is very well researched and written. Strong full dimentional chareacters and a page turning plot. On my list for further books.

Format disaster, chapters muddled book ruinef

Whoever laid out the chapters has made a complete pigs ear of it. The recording starts half way through and due to the style of the author, this is not obvious. As a result the first half of the story, with all the plot twists is blown and the book completely spoiled. I've been an Audible customer since 2009 and have hundreds of books but am furious that this book and series have been ruined by incompetent formatting.
0/10 audible.

Very average

Not at all typical of this writer, perhaps he is running out of ideas and has had to introduce sex scenes and graphic description of leg amputation in order to spice the story up a bit.....it doesn’t work!
The narrator is also very one-dimensional, in all, very disappointing.
