Summary

Winter, 1361: Edward III has finally agreed a treaty with the captive French King, John II. In return for his freedom, John has ceded vast tracts of territory to the English. But the mercenary bands and belligerent lords will not give up their hard-won spoils to honour a defeated king's promises.

As he battles to enforce Edward's claim, Thomas Blackstone, once again, will face the might of the French army on the field. But this time there will be no English army at his back.

Yet another Glorious Gilman story

Master of War takes us once more alongside one of the greatest fighting men to ever grace paper. Thomas Blackstone is as fearsome as he is loyal and his men, all amazing characters too, are always ready to fight next to him.
David Gilman has the rare ability of being able to tell the story at a fast pace, while describing characters in detail, endearing you to Blackstone and his band of brothers... and he always educates the reader.
The Master of War series is a true historical fiction classic, and I have loved every single page .
So if you are looking for great books full of action and history, I would recommend any and all of Gilman's books.

This amazing series continues

Once again the story of Blackstone does not fail to impress.

Superb story telling by Gilman, with rich colourful characters that take you on a journey with Blackstone cleverly and brilliantly narrated by Mace.

Highly recommend this book along with all the others in the series- can’t wait for the next one.

Poor production

In parts, the volume of the narration fluctuates wildly. One sentence is clear and audible, then the next is so quiet you cannot make out what is being said. The story is quite good, but the production marred my enjoyment of it.

another brilliant read

I'm hooked on this series, you actually feel a real connection with the main characters. Very well written and performed well on the whole, my only criticism would be that some parts are read too quietly to heard easily... as if the volume has been lowered.
otherwise excellent, loved the accents.
