Summary

New York Times best-selling author John Eldredge offers listeners a breathtaking look into God's promise for a new heaven and a new Earth.

This revolutionary book about our future is based on the simple idea that, according to the Bible, heaven is not our eternal home - the New Earth is. As Jesus says in the Gospel of Matthew, the next chapter of our story begins with "the renewal of all things", by which he means the Earth we love in all its beauty, our own selves, and the things that make for a rich life: music, art, food, laughter, and all that we hold dear. Everything shall be renewed "when the world is made new".

More than anything else, how you envision your future shapes your current experience. If you knew that God was going to restore your life and everything you love any day, if you believed a great and glorious goodness was coming to you - not in a vague heaven but right here on this Earth - you would have a hope to see you through anything, an anchor for your soul, "an unbreakable spiritual lifeline, reaching past all appearances right to the very presence of God" (Hebrews 6:19).

Most Christians (most people, for that matter) fail to look forward to their futures because their view of heaven is vague, religious, and frankly boring. Hope begins when we understand that for the believer nothing is lost. Heaven is not a life in the clouds; it is not endless harp strumming or worship singing. Rather, the life we long for, the paradise Adam and Eve knew, is precisely the life that is coming to us. And that life is coming soon.

Wonderful book

So much hope is in here. Solid dependable and tangible. As in other books John describes our longings and dreams and how they marry with Gods desires and hopes. Always better to hear it read by the author too!

what was the book about again?

Honestly. If you gave me money right now I could not tell you what this book was about. Granted I listened in bed but other than God and the new creation I could not tell you anything more. This may well be one of those books written for the sake of writing a book. Nothing inherently wrong with the book; just forgettable.

Hope. Wonder. Anticipation. Life.

Never disappointed with John's books. As with others, this book is like the bridge on his grandfather's ranch: full of beauty and adventure that connects me with Jesus. Thanks, John!

A reminder of what ironclad hope it was/is that Christ offered.

This book reminded or taught me what our hope actually is. All hope not grounded in the Eternal King is paper thin. All other roads are bleak and can only be walked with blinders to the soul crushing despair so evident in the world around us. This book pinpoints that the hope that Christ offers is so great and ironclad, that no circumstance can even scratch it. This is a book about coming home, our perfect eternal home. This hope is the only thing I have found that can explain the tidal wave of pain that wracks that human race. As a man that been growing closer to the King for many years (albeit slowly due to my own resistance) I was stunned by how weak my hope for eternity is. This ought to be one of the great foundations of Christ's mystery revealed: Faith, HOPE, and Love.

Excellent! Will listen to again

In the world of pain and hurt, corruption in politics, we need my books like this! We need to strengthen our imagination for the kingdom that is to come, realizing that it will be the reunification of heaven and earth, that paradise truly will be here on earth as Christ will reign from his holy temple with all of us at his side. The imagery and vivid portrayal of what this time will be like was absolutely extraordinary. This book made me smile and made my eyes well up with tears on a few occasions, as I would contemplate what the future holds. I’ll definitely look into reading more of the authors books. God bless

Excellent stirring of hope

John Eldredge does an amazing job of painting a picture of the hope we have at the promised renewal of all things in the new earth, not just a vague church service in the sky (which doesn't sound exciting at all). He stirs our hope with vivid imaginations of the life to come, and backs up those hopes with scripture to explain why they are reasonable. I am excited to cling with all my heart to this hope of the life to come. His narration is excellent and grabs hold of your ears. Wonderful book.

The author takes undue liberty

What disappointed you about All Things New?

I selected this book because I thought the author would speak wisdom and insight into my broken situation. Instead he takes undue liberty in waxing poetic about HIS life and HIS supposed spiritual experiences in the simple things of life, only to leave with the underlying message that everything will be made new in the new earth??!?!!? Most unhelpful for life's problems. I felt that he took undue advantage to speak and describe at great lengths his 'mundane' experiences as snippets of God, but I did not buy this book to hear about him ramble on about his life. I felt taken advantage of. I would not recommend if you're looking for real help and guidance.
