About this listen

An exciting look at the real Jesus - wild, playful and provocative - from bestselling author John Eldredge.

Jesus is the most vague, misrepresented figure in the history of the world. Is it possible to know and trust someone so ethereal and lofty? What is he really like?

BEAUTIFUL OUTLAW offers a look into the humanity of Jesus, dismantling all the religious nonsense and helping us understand who this man really was - on a personal level. Focusing on his compelling personality, bestselling author John Eldredge shows us the real Jesus - playful, wild, and often scandalous.

John Eldredge describes Jesus as the wonderful man I know from the Gospels. And so I was deeply disappointed that he was also so disparaging of any and all religious practice, comparing all religious people to the hypocritical Pharisees of Jesus’ day and totally and utterly misunderstanding and misrepresenting Catholics’ devotion to Mary. I found that part really quite prejudiced and bigoted and I couldn’t finish the book. It could have been such a beautiful book if he had just stuck to speaking about Jesus. I’m praying for John. May his eyes be opened to see God’s grace exactly where he didn’t expect it.

Lovely depiction of Jesus but anti-religion and anti-Catholic
