In life's trials and triumphs, God is initiating boys and men through the stages of manhood from beloved son to cowboy to warrior to lover to king to sage. Fathered by God maps out the path of manhood - not more rules, not another list of principles, not formulas, but a sure path men have followed for centuries before us.

Story
How would it feel to enter into prayer with confidence and assurance - certain that God heard you and that your prayers would make a difference? It would likely feel amazing and unfamiliar. That's because often our prayers seem to be met with silence or don't appear to change anything. Either response can lead to disappointment or even despair in the face of our ongoing battles and unmet longings - especially when we don't know if we're doing something wrong or if some prayers just don't work.

Story
This revolutionary book about our future is based on the simple idea that, according to the Bible, heaven is not our eternal home - the New Earth is. As Jesus says in the Gospel of Matthew, the next chapter of our story begins with "the renewal of all things", by which he means the Earth we love in all its beauty, our own selves, and the things that make for a rich life: music, art, food, laughter, and all that we hold dear. Everything shall be renewed "when the world is made new".

In this unique book he takes his own experiences and widens them out to look at the social, historical and political factors that have left us where we are today. Covering everything from the police, education and identity to politics, sexual objectification and the far right, Natives speaks directly to British denial and squeamishness when it comes to confronting issues of race and class that are at the heart of the legacy of Britain's racialised empire.

In her new book, Stasi Eldredge meets listeners in their painful realities and offers an invitation to a joy that is defiant in the face of this broken world. This kind of joy is present to both goodness and grief and interprets them in the light of heaven.

Summary
Follow one man’s journey of learning to hear the voice of God. By putting words to the things God has shown him through some amazing experiences, John Eldredge helps listeners shed light on the miraculous truths that God is showing them right now.
Our deepest need is to live in conversation with God. To hear his voice. To follow him intimately. This is the single most life-changing habit that a human being can adopt, because it brings us back to the source of life. Yet most Christians have never been taught how to have a conversation with the Creator.
In this revised and updated edition of his classic Walking with God, John Eldredge opens his personal journals to tell a year’s worth of stories about walking and talking with the Lord.
Some of John’s stories will help listeners recall lessons they didn’t know had been forgotten, some will open up new horizons, but they will all help listeners tell and interpret their own story: the story of their intimate walk with God.

Excellent, thought provoking and challenging
I highly recommend this book, especially if you have been brought up in a Christian home, life is a bit dull and you want to experience God. John Eldredge is writing an honest journal of his walk with God. I have taken on board many of his suggestions; this book has taught me listening to God's voice in every day life, asking him for more guidance and hearing him talk to me. It has been amazing and deeply challenged me.

Walking...
As ever, John Eldredge delivers a powerful message in his easy to digest style.
Eldredge has the ability to take deeply powerful spiritual meat and serve it up like veal cooked in milk.
As a reader that increasingly struggles to concentrate to read, or indeed listen to much more than ten minute bursts, his musical rendering of his work held my focus for over an hour at a time six days running.
I'd give six stars if I could.

A walk with the authors personal story
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I struggled through this book as it seem to be the authors diary which at times was very simple. Choice language at points "Jeese frickin louise"! Guess that's an Americanism?
Other times it was very flippant in how the author spoke to God. eg. I asked God what to do and he said this! Did the author use discernment in the replies or just the first thing that came into his head?
What was one of the most memorable moments of Walking with God?
Good ending overall.
Would you listen to another book narrated by John Eldredge?
No
Could you see Walking with God being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?
no

A reassuring look at life's daily struggles
This book is uplifting because it slices life and its challenges into smaller, more digestible bits and offers reassurance that God is in every nugget of our daily living. If we could just look at the SMALL picture, and find God's face in the details, life can much more manageable, productive and joyful.

Great book for the over-worked Christian
The first third of this book changed my walk with Christ. The idea that the Lord wants me to feel joy was life-changing for me. His yoke is light and yet, before reading this book, I felt I served him best by running myself to the ground, living on five hours of sleep and feeling inadequate for not doing more. My common mantra now is "You can't take my joy, Devil." Definitely a recommended read for folks who overdrive themselves.

Hit the mark
Wow, John show us by using one year of his life experiences how God wants and desires an intimate relationship with us. He backs up his thoughts with scripture and by looking at the character and nature of God, and using that to help tell us the truth about our purpose in life. This was my first book by John that I have read, and now, I will be going through all of his books!

Challenging book
I found this book very challenging -- which is what I expect and want from a John Eldredge book. I can't say I'm totally swayed to this way of thinking (that is, I guess, mystically or something), but I definitely feel that he has given me something to think about. I'm less convinced about "spiritual warfare", and what he calls "agreements" (negative ways of thinking that people are tricked into by the "enemy"), though I see some truth in that. I guess more importantly, he has given me something to discuss with the one I call "Lord", and has given me some tools to do that with.
Since I have heard criticism of Eldredge that he plays loose with scripture, I was pleased to find liberal quotations that seem very much in context. Some go beyond what I would interpret, but in some cases, I found my self saying "yeah, that makes sense."
I would recommend this book only to those that feel they can really carefully determine what if anything they should apply to their life. It is not a "first" book for a believer, and especially not for an unbeliever. In fact, it's not even a 2nd or 3rd book, I think. But, for someone looking to go deeper into the spirituality of following the way of Jesus, this is one way to start. There's a lot of classics out there that one could go to as well -- but if you like hunting, fishing, rock climbing, etc., this may be your best bet.

A Mega Shift in Relating to God
John shares his life experiences in learning to converse with God. He provoked a mega shift in my understanding how to walk in intimacy with God. Prayer is out of the closet and into John's real life experiences. He takes the risk of transparency in all things...personal, family, spiritual and even spiritual warfare. And, he models how to engage God conversationally...literally, doing it...the asking and the listening. This read can be a life-changer. It is for me.

WOW
Yes I know this is a long book but you will be surprised at just how quick you will read it before you know it it's over. It is one of thee best book I have read in a very long time!!! Ok there are a few others that where almost this good but they currently where not this long so the enjoyment did not last as long! Add that to the message and then put it in to practice or for some of us re put it into practice and you do have the best book I have read in quite some time!!! Sorry I guess I just can not say enough good things about this book, I know not every one is going to agree with everything that is in it but I truly think it is a great help book. I do have to give you a worming though...DO NOT READ THIS IF you have some issues you are avoiding and want to keep avoiding because this book makes it really hard to keep avoiding them!!! OWCH!!!!!

Got this book a while back...
but apparently wasn't ready to hear it until now. Whoa! What an incredible book at the very time I started having many of the issues he discusses. His recipes for really walking with God are amazingly successful, and his pleasant, conversational style of narration make it lovely to listen to. This has got to be one of the BEST books in my library of literally hundreds of Audible versions, and listening to it restores and invigorates me. I return to it often, and regret when it comes to an end. I feel blessed to have found this book, and God bless John Eldredge for writing it (and narrating it... I wish ALL his unabridged versions were narrated by him!) I have already recommended it to many friends and church family, and so much more thoroughly enjoy my walk with the Lord, even though angels have been talking to me all my life. Thank you, John Eldredge!
