Story
Sebastian Frost was a man with an interesting reputation. He’d killed 12 giants, eight heroes, a duke, and even a prince. But nobody ever talked about any of that. All they talked about was the deviant, disgusting, detestable Herald of Shalia that shamelessly laid with elves. That was because in the strange world based on game mechanics Frost found himself in, laying with elves was somehow treated like laying with animals. Naturally, they weren’t calling him Herald Frost the giant killer....

Sebastian Frost’s most recent memory was waking up in a field naked, in a body that wasn’t his own, in a world that definitely wasn’t his own, and three stunning pointy-eared women staring right at him. He also remembered hair as white as starlight, eyes like amethysts, and the name Shalia. Fortunately, it was the right name to know. Shalia was the elves’ goddess, and that made him her herald.

Summary
Choose a class, win your girls, reclaim the world.
Cade Clarke spends his last night on Earth drinking with an old army buddy. When he decides to risk his life to defend a gorgeous bartender, he pays the ultimate price.
Resurrected to Antinium, Cade finds himself thrown into a world where the very rules of reality have shifted. He chooses a unique class, customizes his soul weapon, and levels up to unlock vital skills, traits and attributes points in order to survive.
Cade’s chances for success are minimal, until he finds his destiny intertwined with a group of sexy women who will help him build a village and fight his foes beside him. They must grow strong enough to overthrow an evil tyrant. Or die trying....
The Chimera King series contains explicit adult content, unconventional harem relationships, graphic and persistent violence, and a hero whose humor belongs in a military barracks. Proceed at your own risk.

Just a really good story
As a gamelit story, this works really well, the game mechanics work well and the action is well done. The harem side if the book is also good, it's slow burn and so feels part of the story. The characters have depth, with the female ones being strong women who can stand side by side with the mc. The narrators both do a fantastic job. At the end of the book the author gives us a nice personal insight to the origins of the story. Highly recommended.

The narrator tried, but couldn't save this book
I love Boucher's voice, but there's honestly nothing he could have done better to save this book for me. An ex soldier that gets queazy at the sight of a butchered animal carcass... who performs in a fight as well as an office worker that's never seen combat... and who's about as canny an operator as a dull stone. These kinds of protagonists can work (though they're not for me), but don't bloody give them a background that makes their incompetence nonsensical. I didn't finish. Didn't want to, tbh.

Was just Ok,
Minor Spoilers, I have many issues with this book. It started out good with a focus on leveling up and getting stronger. Then when he realized he must get stronger to defeat the protagonist/antagonist he stopped leveling. Honestly did he even gain a level during the second half of the book? The second issue was the last sex scene. During most of the book the MC only has sex with one character. These scenes are pretty long and descriptive. Now when he finally has sex with the other character its mainly him having an inner dialog of the past and whats to come. The first time should be special with a focus on that scene. The other scenes after the first can be quicker and not as detailed but not the first time. Frankly the lack of focus the MC has in pleasing the beast girl is a major turn off. The MC made a comment I wonder how she taste. At anytime the MC could have focused on her pleasure but it was always about his pleasure with the beast girl. It just gives men a bad image. Additionally I hate peer pressure and the beast girl won't stop pressuring the other woman into joining. She even puts down the MC to try to convince her to join. In a lot of ways the MC is an Alpha male type but not when it comes to women. When dealing with the women he turns into a Beta allowing them to belittle and dictate much of the relationship. Sorry but in polygamist relationship, rather its 1 male and many women or 1 woman and many men the 1 needs to be the Alpha or the relationship will never work. I'm not sure if I'll continue with this series. In an environment like this one there should be much more fighting, especially given the MC's class. It has the starts of a harem but not really a harem in this book. It has the potential to be a good book but just falls short.

Enjoyed this after having read it already.
Second time through a book you sometimes get a better appreciation for aspects of it that you missed the first time. I would say that is especially true when the second time through is a different mode. This author presents the struggles of a military man. The MC is one who is both prepared and accustomed to violence and war but at the same time has no love for it and would prefer a life of peace. I remember reading somewhere that no one prays for peace as fervently as warriors. I think that is true of the MC, yet what I love about him is that he isn't willing to step up when he needs to. He takes a stand for what is write and it shows in how he is written. If the author is half the man the Cade is then, I only wish I could buy him a beer. Of course life isn't all easy for Cade. The enemy he is faced with is overwhelming. He could easily give up but doesn't. He struggles on and finds a way through. He gets a unique and powerful class but it doesn't put him onto the path to easy mode. Quite to the contrary he often learns from his companions how much he has to learn about the new world he is in. On the other hand life, isn't all bad for him. The cover alone shows you some of the perks of the new life that he finds himself in. In short, this is a fun, fast paced story, that doesn't preach at you but still has characters who have a backbone for doing right.

More RPG than Harem
If your a fan of RPG and harem fantasies you should give this one try. It has the prerequisites of a struggling hero trying to overcome his past. There are the strong yet equally beast-kin feminine support, as well as the menacing megalomaniac looking for dominance.

More feminist nonsense. " let's pretend that women can take on men in physical combat" . it gets old... Also, not into the white knight stuff. where are the books like this with the mc as a chauvinist? I'm tired of the politically correct crap. This dude is like a chick with a Dick...

What???
I love science fiction fantasy. It is one of my favorite genres to listen to. This is a horrible story for my money. Heard all but the last 40 minutes of it and realized that not only did I not care, but I had not one ounce of invested emotion in the characters. The performance by the narrators is stellar and I noticed that the only emotion I had in the story was the pity I felt for them... I guess a paycheck is a paycheck. I would pass this by, having not read nor heard any of the other works by Atlas Kane, I can not attest to his other works, but this is a shallow story with an ingenious concept to is void of all true character development except for maybe one character, who is not even the main one. The main character seems like a cross between a military version of Jack Burton and Deadpool. Sounds funny if nothing else, but rest assured it is not after 10 hours.

Atrocious
The writing was terribly basic and much of the word choice left much to be desired. I went in hoping for some light-hearted fun reading and have something to listen to the in background. It was so bad that I cannot keep at it more than two hours into the book. The main character is a cliche and a poorly written one at that. The MC is angry all the time but not so much as he will do anything about it. The impotent rage only quelled by his infatuation with sexy ladies. But not anything to do with being a what he views himself as a good person. I cannot recommend not reading this one enough. It is the only the second audiobook I have yet to feel this way about. And the only one that I would like to hide in my library and never see again. The voice actor makes effort and I have few qualms with that performance.
