Summary

Flannery Rivers is content to let her sister, Harper, carry on the family dynasty - at the Rivers hospital where they both work and on the home front. Now that Harper is settled and soon to be happily married, Flannery can ease back into her life of casual flirtations and find all the excitement she needs in the ER. She's even got her next playmate all lined up, or so she thinks.

Abigail Remy is a city girl who accepts a position at the imperiled country hospital in the hope of finding a stable, safe community for her teenaged trans son. Unfortunately, when she arrives to work, she discovers the current ER chief is less than happy to be replaced by a fresh-out-of-residency newcomer. Add unexpected attraction to the incendiary mix of city and country, fire and ice, tradition and change - and the prescription is combustible.

Nice romance, and interesting settings characters

The setting is the Rivers hospital, and the story follows on from "Against Doctor's Orders" and is the second book in the "Rivers Family Romance series". To me, Radclyffe in this novel is building up the setting, and additional characters, in the same manner as the Provincetown Tales series.

In this work I liked the setting and characters. The introduction of a transgender teen Blake and the difficulties she faces brought an additional dynamic to the story. The protective interaction between Blake and Harper adds to the story.

Abby Craden's performance is great! and she brings the different characters alive with her accents and multiple voices.

The story runs along traditional romance lines, but does have a great dramatic moment with a tornado. However, for me the interaction between Harper Rivers and Presley Worth could have developed at a slow pace and, despite the blurb for the novel, there is actually not a lot of conflict between them. I also felt the development of love between them happened very quickly, and more time was needed between these. As a series, I felt it could have been possible to defer the "I love you" moment to a later novel.

Don't get me wrong, it's good and definitely worth a listen, but my feeling is Radclyffe has a great setting and is bringing interesting characters to the series, but more time can be taken to build tension and affection between them.

Nothing substantial

Never will I buy another of this Authors books.
They are the same formula, just different names or places.
And it's not as if any of them are interesting. So predictable it's tedious.
A regrettable purchase but at least I have learned who is not good, because of all the 5star novels that are brilliant.

Cookie cutter story

Radclyffe is a very talented writer. Her story ideas are quite creative, particularly her medical stories. But her stories are too short and uncomplicated for today's lesbian readers. Come on, gives us a little more than Harlequin.

Rushed Storyline

The story begins very easily but the ending we all knew was coming was rushed. This love story didn’t have to unfold overnight. In fact, the courting notion proposed would’ve been nice to see play out especially since Flanagan begins the book as a player. She never fully makes a shift out of that, not that we can see. The first book doesn’t rush.

Terrific love story

If you’re in the mood for an awesome love story between two women and the challenges of coming out as a trans teen this book absolutely fits the bill. A little pat but worth the read and definitely intense. I loved it! Near raider is on the mark, from her voice acting to her narration reading just perfect!

This is better than the first book

There's only a few thinks I didn't like about this book.
1) No wedding, common, the first book left us hanging ,then they spent the whole time during this one to plan and we still didn't get to experiance Happer's wedding. or the barn raising..😛
2) the book introduced Blake the Son.. and many things were discussed. which let us as readers wanting. There was no resolution. My guess is.. It wasn't Blake's story, so maybe the Author didn't feel it was right to truly get in to his transformation. although I would of loved to seen it.
3) It took the whole book for Abby and Flan to get together. I would of liked to have more time with them as a couple and a family as a whole. instead of the last 6 min.
Ok so now that I put that out there.( its really good im just being spoiled and want more details lol )This is by far one of her better sweet stories. I loved it. Radcyffe is amazing and she has created an environment with these two books that male you feel apart of the Rivers Family
It's engaging, emotional laugh out loud good.
This just like Against Doctors Orders is a must read. you will love ever moment you spend with such an amazing group of Characters. it's gonna leave you wanting more.. Abby Craden performance is outstanding .

An Insult To Sequels

After listening to Against Doctors Orders I eagerly looked forward to this book. This was further reinforced by reading that this book focused on Flan. Flannery O'Connor Rivers is the second daughter as well as the second doctor in among the second generation of the family. In the initial Rivers Family Romance book she read like what she was supposed to be; a smart talking, sexually adventurous rebel and more than a little bit of a badass. In Prescription For Love she's lost her edge and has been homogenized and ironed down into a typical romance novel drama queen. Whatever individuality she possessed in the first book of the series was sacrificed in order to make her fit easily into the romance genre mold. My other complaint was Ida, the clan matriarch; she seemed to treat her offspring as if they were still small children, right down to instructing her 32 yr old doctor daughter to eat her vegetables whether she wanted to or not.
I loved Margey, the youngest Rivers daughter; her character was perhaps the only one better presented in the second novel than in the first; hopefully the third sister Carson will be more humanized if the series continues. Blake is also quite interesting and his friendship with Margey provides a good YA storyline.
Radclyffe is always worthy of a listen, even when she stumbles; I'm just upset, this book could have been so much better.

Nooooooooo to Flannery voice!!!

Why why why... change the narrator... nooo. And why was Flannery made to sound like one of Harper's tired old goat...? she sounded sooo good in Against Doctors Orders... I am begging please change Fllannery voice over... dont mind waiting... please.. change... After struggling to finish the book... (well wanted to know what happens to Fllannery)and what an anti-climax from the first book... Super rushed.. about 5 kisses to marriage/having babies... Has taken Lesbian U-Haul to another level.. Radcliffe after reading Honor Series... (more than 1000 times.. loved them) reading Provincetown Series, I'm seeing this series to be a disappointment.. what happened ..?

Excellent Audiobook - Give me tons more like this

This is my absolutely favourite kind of Radclyffe pairing. One character is wild and restless and the other wants more than a one night stand. It’s just sooooooooooo good and I want tons more of it. I also really enjoyed the side story with Blake, Abigail's trans son and his friendship with Margie, the youngest of the River’s kids. All the characters were well fleshed out, both from a writing and narration point of views. The chemistry between the leading ladies was wonderful and the family dynamics add something special to the mix.

Want More

What made the experience of listening to Prescription for Love the most enjoyable?

Abby Craden, nuff said

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ida Rivers. She's the matriarch of the Rivers clan who hasn't lost her southern charm even though she married a Yankee.

What does Abby Craden bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Depth to the characters.

If you could take any character from Prescription for Love out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Carrie cause she's such a sweetheart.

Any additional comments?

I'm looking for more in this setting. I love the Rivers and the supporting cast and I hope that this is the beginning of a series.
