Two girls go missing. Only one will return.
The couple that offers the highest amount will see their daughter again. The losing couple will not. Make no mistake. One child will die....
When nine-year-old best friends Charlie and Amy disappear, two families are plunged into a living nightmare. A text message confirms the unthinkable; that the girls are the victims of a terrifying kidnapping.
And when a second text message pits the two families against each other for the life of their children, the clock starts ticking for D.I. Kim Stone and the squad.
Seemingly outwitted at every turn, as they uncover a trail of bodies, Stone realizes that these ruthless killers might be the most deadly she has ever faced, and that their chances of bringing the girls home alive are getting smaller by the hour....
Untangling a dark web of secrets from the families' past might hold the key to solving this case. But can Kim stay alive long enough to do so? Or, will someone's child pay the ultimate price?

Narration much better - story outstanding
I have now listened to all 3 books of this series, all narrated by Jan Cramer. After the first book I was critical of the narration but I'm really glad I persevered. As ever, the story was fast paced and gripping, but the narration this time was superb. If you are hesitating over this audiobook due to doubts about the narrator, then go for it - you won't be disappointed.

Gripping!
A truly gripping tale, fast paced, gruesome in parts, full of twists and turns. It depicts humanity at its worst and at its best. The characters were gritty shaped by childhood experiences. It's about the power of love, how important it is and the devastation to the human soul when there is none present. Highly recommended.

Fast paced, tense and exciting!
I have really enjoyed the first three Kim Stone books. I couldn't stop listening until I knew what would happen to the girls! Very likable characters and well written. Like the other two books I found it quite far fetched and had a few plot holes, but still entertaining and enjoyable to read. I hope the autor is planning on more in the Kim Stone series but please for the love of god fire the narrator!

Story good but the characters not the best
The detective seemed pretty clueless, overly self assured and with a very flat sense of humour. The story itself was clever, although the characters of the evil characters were not well drawn out.

Absolutely brilliant
Someone else mentioned that they didn't rate the narrator in the first book, but thought she was brilliant in this one - I could not agree more, she was excellent.
The story line was the best one yet. In fact I would go as far as to say this is the best detective book I have read to date (and I have read a lot! Highly recommend, I do think it is best to read the books in order, although you can read them all individually.
This book had me on the edge of my seat, and would make a brilliant TV series.

Best DI Kim Stone book so far
Everything about this book was fantastic.
The suspense was gripping, characters relatable, and style is wonderful.
This book has been the most graphic of the series so far, some parts a bit disturbing, but perfect for the development of the story.

Even better than its 4.5 star average rating!
British author Angels Marsons knows how to build suspense! This is novel #3 in the DI Kim Stone crime thriller series. Like the first 2 it earns a 5 star rating. The cases are about kidnappings of 9 year old girls. If you like crime thrillers, they do not get better than this series. English actress Jan Cramer narrates as she does with the outstanding Detective Erica Foster series by author Robert Bryndza. With fewer than 50 novels to her credit Jan Cramer is quickly becoming one of the best narrators. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Didn't Finish
The story line was decent, but there was something about either the writing or the narrating that caused me to not be able to pay enough attention. It was one of those books that didn't grip me, and I found myself constantly needing to back up 30 or 60 seconds, or sometimes to the beginning of the chapter. After trudging through like this until maybe two-thirds of the way through, I finally decided that it wasn't worth it to continue this way and finish the book. It's kind of a shame, because I wanted to know how it ended. However, the book wasn't compelling enough for it to matter all that much. Oh well--off to a new title...

Love the characters, the twists and turns and the gripping edge of chair suspense. This one is the best I have read in the series to date. The narrator is fantastic and brings all the characters alive. Can't wait to read the next.
