Summary

A gritty, angsty, friends-to-lovers stand-alone romance from USA Today best-selling author Siobhan Davis.

A childhood promise. An unbreakable bond. One tragic event that shatters everything.

It all started with the boys next door....

Devin and Ayden were my best friends. We were practically joined at the hip since age two. When we were kids, we thought we were invincible, inseparable, that nothing or no one could come between us.

But we were wrong.

Everything turned to crap our senior year of high school.

Devin was turning into a clone of his deadbeat lowlife father - fighting, getting wasted, and screwing his way through every girl in town. I'd been hiding a secret crush on him for years. Afraid to tell him how I felt in case I ruined everything. So, I kept quiet and slowly watched him self-destruct with a constant ache in my heart.

Where Devin was all brooding darkness, Ayden was the shining light. Our star quarterback with the bright future whom everyone loved. But something wasn't right. He was so guarded, and he wouldn't let me in.

When Devin publicly shamed me, Ayden took my side, and our awesome-threesome bond was severed. The split was devastating. The heartbreak inevitable.

Ayden and I moved on with our lives, but the pain never lessened, and Devin was never far from our thoughts.

Until it all came to a head in college, and one eventful night changed everything.

Now, I've lost the two people who matter more to me than life itself. Nothing will ever be the same again.

A stand-alone new adult contemporary romance with a happy ending. Suitable only for listeners age 18 and older due to mature content and possible triggers.

I have so much to say about this book.....

I’ll start by saying I hated it. A few chapters in and I was irritated and I stayed irritated till the end. I’m not one to give up on a book so I kept going. It just got worse and more irritating as it went on and goodness did it go on ...and on.....and on.
Angelina and Aiden are selfish, self absorbed, childish and disloyal beyond belief. Poor Devon starts off the same but the reasons for his behavior are at least understandable and he redeems himself. I felt that he was a victim throughout this book. If these three were such close life long friends half the stuff in this book just wouldn’t have happened.

Every drama you could think of is squeezed in to this book, unrequited love, a love triangle, bullying, alcoholism, teen runaway, teen pregnancy gone bad, abusive parents and abusive spouses, estranged fathers, missing mothers, rape, murder, sexual orientation and the angst of coming out, suicide, lying, cheating and every betrayal you can think of is in this book!

****SPOILER ALERT***** sorry there is no way to explain why I disliked it so much without a reveal.

Angelina is a horrible character, the worst, followed closely by Aiden. How can she be so in love with Devon and in a matter of weeks getting it on with their best friend Aiden. She flits from one to the other breaking one and using the other. That said by the end Aiden was probably the worst of all.

Gosh! I don’t even know how to write this but a quick synopsis of the plot might help me so here we go....

Three best friends Angelina, Devon and Aiden have grown up together and have been inseparable till their senior year.
Angelina loves Devon.
Devon seems to be a manwhore but it’s apparent he loves her back.
Their moment comes, they get hot and heavy he holds back and refuses to take her virginity because he is in a bad place in his young life, addicted to alcohol and in a downward spiral and wants to be better before embarking on a relationship with the girl he’s been in love with most of his life.
But she wants him to deflower her, she has waited all her life for him, why won’t he take her even though she can clearly see he is in his own personal hell.
Angelina doesn’t take, what she decides is his rejection, very well.
Devon gets fall over drunk and sleeps with Angelina’s enemy.
She retaliates by sleeping with Aiden. Even though it’s clear there are secrets between the boys that need explanations. And that Devon is struggling with something that is controlling his decision making. No she decides to make it worse for all of them by sleeping with the one person she shouldn’t touch. Some kind of true love she had for Devon... NOT!
Aiden takes offered Virginity even though he knows his best friend is in love with her and she him and that Devon recently refused her because he was trying to do the right thing. (Predictably Aiden is actually in love with Devon and gets in the way to sabotage any chance of Devon having a relationship with Angelina. After advising his BEST friend to hold off confessing his love till he has his act together. BACK STABBER!)

By this point I’m done with the book but keep reading because I can’t help but hope these characters will redeem themselves. But they just continue with their selfish behavior till they destroy their lives and take a few others with them along the way. Causing huge amounts of heartache for everyone that cares about them.

It was too much, too far fetched and ridiculous and just plain annoying. Add to that the unlikable and frankly irredeemable characters of Angelina and Aiden and the book just dragged on and on. But somehow everyone that is still alive at the end lives happily ever after.

I can’t fathom how this got rated so high. Which is why I chose to write this blatant rant because I don’t want any one else coming into this blind. I love a romance and I expect angst and heartbreak being mixed in, it comes with the territory. But this was just a cluster ****.

Wow! This story takes you every where an Audible book should!

Don’t ever discount this excellent book as merely YA... this is about intense friendships, complicated love and overcoming tragedy and pain. This story will rip your heart out and put it back together. I binged-listened this book and could not stay away from it or put it down. I highly recommend it!

Not my favorite Siobhan book

I have listened to this book twice. The first time was a long time ago and I couldn't for the live of me remember much about it, so, I thought I'd give it another go to see what it was about. Now I know why I didn't remember what happened, the book is not memorable. The characters were horrible. They were all pretty selfish with Ayden being the worst of them all. But Angelina was second in her selfishness. I couldn't believe that Angelina confesses to loving Devon so much but yet she cuts him out of her life so easily. In fact, Ayden and her both seem to cut him out pretty easily after saying that they were inseparable as children and had a pack to always be friends. I can't believe that Angelina was so wrapped up in her own self to even bother to ask the boys what was going on. She was so week during times when she should have been strong and so strong when she shouldn't have been. I can't believe she didn't bother to find out what her relationship status was with Ayden for months, like it was no big deal and they when it becomes a big deal she she still doesn't want to know. Who would do that? And the whole third part of the book was totally just stupid for lack of a better word. I mean really? Make Angelina do basically the same things to Devon that he did to her. How unoriginal. Only she was old enough to know better by the time she was doing it. I really did understand why Devon really even bothered to have anything to do with either her or Ayden by time the book was over. There were also time line problems for me. I wouldn't get into those as they would be big spoilers.

I thought CJ Bloom did a really good job with this book. Soren Gray did alright but he wasn't my favorite.

I have no words

I wasn’t sure about this book at first. It was a little too cryptic at first for me, seemed like too much high school drama. But god it took a turn and I basically cried the whole second half of the book. I think this is a book that everyone needs to hear/read. It could have taken another path and been superb as well, but I think it’s nice to have a change in my books and this definitely met that need. Omg I just can’t describe how great this book was!

Absolutely Breathtaking

One of my new all time favorites. A story that includes true friendship, true love and unbreakable bonds. Be prepared for tears to fall and your heart to break as it is mended and swollen full.
