So many of the characters in these full-cast versions seem to shout so much, so unnecessarily… Why? These aren’t how the characters are portrayed or who we know and love. So bizarre in some cases.

Why so much shouting?

Well. Let’s face it. It was the reboot no one asked for but us Potter Heads immediately started quivering with anticipation as soon as announced.

I’m a book fan to the hilt, the hilt of Godrics sword. I enjoy the new versions of these books. However, ultimately I prefer Mr Fry’s versions. Don’t get me wrong. I like the sounds. The music. The ambience that’s been created with these new ones. I feel some of the voices are massively overacted. Filch being one with the Mrs Norris scene. Myrtle. Some of Malfoy’s lines where he constantly laughs at his own jokes are a bit much. First book and this. Snapes voice is wrong. Completely. Just as wrong as the actor casting for the new series. That’s a different argument for another day.

Ultimately I’ll continue with the series because I’m a fan of the books and it’s nice to get a fresh take on them. Would I rate them 10/10. Definitely not. Stephen Fry is a 10/10. But. These are about a 6.

Some of the lines are overacted.

This isn’t just an audio ‘book’ - it’s an experience…truly unique and immersive, like them or not Amazon have smashed it with this production (along with the great voice acting). Loved it. Way to go Audible & Amazon!

Truly an Experience :)

Love this new full-cast version. These reviews saying Stephen Fry is better are cracking me up. I love SF but its a bit more convincing when Hermione is played by, you know, an actual young girl than someone who sounds like they graduated from Eton in the 1970s. Also it was originally meant to be pronounced Voldermore, its a a french word and a silent T. I agree that Snape (has anyone checked in on poor Riz after seeing these reviews) isnt quite right for the part, but the majority of the casting is superb. Hagrid, Lockhart, Dobby and many more were all fantastic. Sounds like they listened to reviews about the audio from the first book too, this sounds much better and like you're right there with the characters. Looking forward to the rest. Keep it up!

Such a great way to revisit the Chamber of Secrets
