Summary
A set textbook at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry since publication, Newt Scamander's masterpiece has entertained wizarding families through the generations. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an indispensable introduction to the magical beasts of the wizarding world.
Scamander's years of travel and research have created a tome of unparalleled importance. Some of the beasts will be familiar to readers of the Harry Potter books – the Hippogriff, the Basilisk, the Hungarian Horntail... others will surprise even the most ardent amateur Magizoologist.
Narrated by Eddie Redmayne, this is the first audio book edition of Scamander's textbook ever to be released. Having starred as Newt Scamander himself in the movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, who better to narrate this Hogwarts Library book from one of the wizarding world's most famous Magizoologists? Eddie's film credits include The Danish Girl, My Week with Marilyn, Les Misérables and The Theory of Everything, for which he won a Golden Globe, an Academy Award and a BAFTA Award for Best Actor.
Dip in to discover the curious habits of magical beasts across five continents….
Please note: This A-Z textbook is enhanced for audio with original sound design. This audiobook includes "audio footnotes" which have been treated with a sound effect to differentiate them from the main narration.
15% of the proceeds* received by Pottermore Limited from this audiobook will be made available by the publisher to Comic Relief and Lumos Foundation for their work with children and young people to help them have a better life. 20% of these monies will be used by Comic Relief and 80% will be used by Lumos Foundation.

Shards of Pottery!
This "book" is probably a must for Potter completists. However, it's worth mentioning that at the time of writing this review the linked Amazon reviews are a mixture of reviews about this book and the other books pertaining to "Fantastic Beasts" including the screenplay which could be confusing..
When you get a series as special as the Harry Potter books which captured the world's imagination it really makes sense to further explore the world and its artefacts and I'll admit to being a sucker for this kind of thing at times. This does just that and unless you've been hiding under a philosopher's stone somewhere you'll already know that it isn't another book about Harry Potter himself. Rather, it's one of the text books used at Hogwarts brought to life in some detail. Just for clarity then this is not the screenplay or even the story of the film, either of which would be rather excellent!. This is primarily an A-Z of the magical creatures of the Harry Potter world.
Each creature is explained in turn including its Ministry of Magic classification. There are various sound effects that add depth and at times amusing anecdotes about them. The performance given by Eddie Redmayne is as you would expect given his acting talent and involvement with the film; very good. After all this is not a story per se but a text book upon which stories were built. So it's not an easy one to read and get involved in as a narrator.
For a full credit it is of course a short book but given that so much of the proceeds are going to such worthwhile causes the whole thing makes sense for fans of Harry Potter who just want that little bit more of the magic. I do think that the latest physical versions of the book may be a better option though. I am a huge fan of audiobooks of course and often prefer the format to the written word but the beautiful presentation of the physical books and inclusions of extras such as handwritten notes purportedly by the characters means in this case the audiobook works less well for what is after all a reference book rather than a story.

Textbooks in the Harry Potter world are a lot more interesting than ordinary muggle textbooks, and it's probably even better because it's narrated by Eddie Redmayne.

strictly for fans of Harry Potter
it's a guide to magical beasts, and as such it's not very riveting for muggles. otherwise, as all the Rowling 's books, it's an easy and insightful read. interesting addition to wizarding world. and you gotta love Redmayne, he's simply amazing. I have to admit- it's pretty thrilling to hear his voice reading me a book!
for foreigners: while english is not my first language, there was no struggle in understanding and separating the words, even though made up or uncommonly used names often present themselves with a level of difficulty for me.

Truly Fantastic Beasts
I make no secret and no apologies for the fact , I love JK Rowling's books. I have never loved another world more since I discovered Narnia. Eddie Redmayne makes this book come to life, I don't usually spend my time listening to Audible giggling, but I did listening to this book. It was bliss, please say a huge thank you to Mr R on behalf.

Good addition to the Harry Potter world
Would you consider the audio edition of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them to be better than the print version?
I really enjoyed it espically with it being read by Eddie Redmayne, me and my daughter played the audio book whilst readying through the book itself
Any additional comments?
The only people giving this a negative review are people who don't know what the book is meant to be,

Amazing!
Amazing and enchanting story as usual by J.K. Rowling and wonderfully read by Eddie Redmayne.

whoops
For some reason I thought that this was an actual story. Guess I should have read the description a little bit more completely. It's probably fun to sit with your kids and look through the different creatures, but doesn't make for a very interesting audible experience

There isn't much story here... but that narrator!
I honestly have never wanted to read this book nor purchase any version. I do have the screenplay because I mean the cover is beautiful! But besides that, it does not call my attention fully.
However, I saw that Audible published this title a few months ago and I heard the preview... and oh my god! This is just one of the best narrations and productions I have heard in my life. There is nothing better than read, but when you listen a book that is full of special effects and sounds of dragons, pixies, fairies, merpeople, and other fantastic beasts that you can come up with... it is just another story and another world!

Better as a physical book
I knew it would be written like a guide book, but it just wasn't as engaging as I'd hoped it would be.

Wonderfully read, great information
This book is very pleasing despite my hesitation to order it. Easy short listen and will enhance your beastly knowledge.

Loved this audiobook
Thank you so much for this audio book. Eddie Redmayne was just outstanding. I have read the book as well and wow this audiobook just took it to another level.

Absolutely Pointless
Would you try another book from J.K. Rowling and Newt Scamander and/or Eddie Redmayne?
Yes
What was most disappointing about J.K. Rowling and Newt Scamander ’s story?
The whole book. I can't believe someone thought it was worth the time to make an audiobook out of an encyclopedia of magical creatures.
What does Eddie Redmayne bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He is a good narrator.

A new twist on a childhood favorite!
I enjoyed the original Fantastic Beasts textbook as a child and also am madly in love with Eddie Redmayne and thought he made the perfect Newt Scamander in the film adaptation so this updated audiobook was an immediate must-have. While it isn't really much of a story due to the textbook description format, it was still a delightfully entertaining quick listen. It included some new creatures that weren't in the original book and also had some updated musings from the "author" that I can only hope are foreshadowing for the new movies. #FairytaleTwists #UnlikelyHero #Magical #Nostalgic #Animal #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

Good Narrator, No story. Its only informative.
It was a good book if your someone that wanted to learn more about the creatures in the Harry Potter world, however it isnt the same experience you get when you read the Harry potter books. I was expecting the book to be like the movie, to have a story behind it. It was very well narrated tho.

Fantastic reader and where to listen!
Eddie Redmayne does a great job of reprising his roll as Newt Scamander reading "his" book. I have owned the previous edition paper edition of this book for years, so relatively little was "new" to me, but I enjoyed Eddie/Newt's interpretation and the fun sound effects. Also some minor but fun hints about the forthcoming documents to be declassified by the Ministry of Magic (that is, future movies in the series.) A very short audiobook for the price, but a must have for a true fan.

There is no story just a list of creatures
Probably my fault for not listening to the sample I thought it was the story of the new feature film it is not it's just a simple list of beasts nothing more. Unless you a huge Harry Potter head it's not worth your time.
