It was very interesting and scary in parts but so exciting and such a touching story we fell in love with the Christmas Pig.

Absolutely Amazing!!

A comforting and familiar story of losing something you love and the adventure of recovering it again. An enormous (and sometimes a little confusing) cast - readers be prepared to have an arsenal of strange and unusual character voices to hand! You kind of know where it's going and what it is all leading to, but the journey there is a bit random and awkwardly deep at times. It reminds me of Alice in Wonderland going through 'zones' of adventure, but less whacky. The main character, Jack, has incredibly complex feelings, but his sincerity and resounding hope bond you to him, and CP's dogged determination will take you with them.
There are some aspects of the first few chapters that some kids might find upsetting - a childs-eye-view of a failing marriage and divorce, moving away from school, jealousy in joining a new family and living with an angry, hurt and resentful step-sibling, but will be reflective of some families experiences. The scene in the car got me square in the feelings...
The heart of the story is warming and sweet - the love of a boy for his cuddly toy pig. I long for less 'abstract, allegorical and ethereal' and more 'magical and wonderous' - a world JKR has been exceptional at creating - but it was a lovely story of love, loyalty, loss, understanding and compassion. Great for a read in the run up to Christmas x

An unusual adventure story, but has a warm heart x

If you can get through the first 12 ( I think it's 12) chapters which aren't very Christmas-y (My husband and I were thinking what have we done?) then the rest is much better. Dramatic and engaging. Full of detail a la Harry Potter. Happy and sad. A real emotional rollercoaster.

A real emotional rollercoaster Christmas story

I have really enjoyed this. Prefect for the run up to Christmas and help pass a long journey in the car.
