Publisher's Summary

Circumstances force eight-year-old Sarah and her widowed mother to enter the notorious St Giles and St George’s Workhouse.

When her mother dies in childbirth, the independent-minded Sarah falls foul of the workhouse master, Trigg, and his cruel wife.

Sarah’s ordeal seems to be over when a sugar mill owner takes her into his home.

But her wealthy benefactor reports Trigg and his wife. And blaming Sarah for their misfortune, in a fit of revenge, the couple decide to take the law into their own hands.

    "Captivating Listen"

This is the third book I have listened to and I am hooked on this author - having now put all the books I can find in my Wish List. This book is a thoroughly absorbing, captivating story of poor girl making good with riveting storyline and detail in between. I so admire the author for the descriptive scenes and great characters. I highly recommend this audio book.

    "Loved It"
Would you listen to The Workhouse Girl again? Why?

Yes I will definitely listen to this book again, the story was well written and I love Annie Aldington reading it using her very different character voices.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Workhouse Girl?

    When Grey accidentally killed Trigg

Which character – as performed by Annie Aldington – was your favourite?

    Netty

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Grey took care of Sara after he kidnapped her

    Any additional comments?

Would recommend, there was suspense, thriller, action and romance all in one book.

    "Enjoyable but unbelievable & predictable."

I did enjoy listening but found the storyline a little unbelievable (yes I know it’s fiction!) and a little predictable.
But, all in all, it was an entertaining listen.
