Summary
The stunning new novel from Sunday Times best seller Dilly Court
London, 1854: 20-year-old Essie Chapman lives with her father in poverty-stricken Limehouse, working on the river as a boatman. Her life seems set before her, never to leave this part of London and forever at her father's beck and call.
Then, one night, she must transport a mysterious man from a foreign ship to the banks of the Thames, a man who ends up renting a room in Essie's house, identifying himself only as 'Raven'.
When curiosity gets the better of her, Essie follows him and unwittingly becomes involved in something far greater than she could ever have guessed. Finding herself on a ship bound for the penal colonies in Australia with Raven and his cousin Alice, this is only the start of a remarkable journey taking her to the other side of the world and back again....

A typical fluffy romance
The usual “formula” girly romance, it’s a bit of a bland story but the characters are likeable enough. Its pleasant to listen to if you want something easy and unchallenging. Im not sorry I bought it but I would never bother to listen to it again

Fluffy, easy listening
Another easy listening book from Dilly Court. Same old formula of girl battles against the odds & wins.
As annoying & predictable that I find these books, they are still strangely compelling! Great narration by Annie Aldington.

The River Maids Journey.
I really enjoyed listening to this story. I enjoyed being a part of the characters lives. They have kept me company during my long drives from London to Wiltshire and back, a round trip of approximately 188 miles. I loved Essies growth from such a tough upbringing, getting her wealth and making a great life with Jack.

Delightful story of young Esta narrated by Annie Aldington written by Dilly court
What a brilliant story of a young girl Essie, born on the river banks of London brought up by her drunken father following her mother’s death.
Following her fathers accident Essie worked her fathers boat on the river Tems to keep food on the table.
During this time she came to meet the mysterious gentleman ‘Redford’ who came to stay at her fathers shamble of a house while hiding out from the authorities. And was soon drawn into his secret world and was taken to the other side of the world before returning to London a very rich woman indeed.
